Well first you will need a shell to run any type of exploit and yes netcat is the best approach.
You are right about seedboxes been used for illegal activities but it stays hidden, if the server admin identifies you he can sue you for this. Remember your torrent based activities are recorded too.
Thinking of it that way... probably not the best idea... want to shout me a seedbox?

What specs/features are you looking at?
nothing overly amazing or expensive... just your basic seedbox to get ratios up :)
