    Default Seedbox for dummies.

Could someone breifly explain me how to use a seedbox? I basically just know that is is like a server you use to download your torrents, does that mean I download them in some host, and then share from there and myself download directly from the host to my computer? or when I download using a seedbox It would download directly to my computer at super high speeds?

Also =what would be the stepped processes on opening one, i have a mac btw?
Ive also read about sharing seedboxes, whats the deal with that?

Sorry this maybe totally stupid questions but Im new to this and havent fully understood.

Thanks for anyone willing to help!

well consider seedbox like a PC far away from you can with a nice net connection....and you have access to it..like you can view the content and download it form there...maybe direct or FTP download....
that server will have a p2p client like utorrent which will seed nad leech for you....you don't hav eto do anything from your PC

well the download will be in the server and you can get it downloaded to your PC later from the server....
while downloading from seedbox to your PC you will only get speed that is of your home connection..
oh for downloading the data down to your PC you need a FTP client...try googling Filezilla

so depending on your seedbox/host you will get different type of access..like from VNC / FTP/SFTP and all...google them if you want to know what are they....well normally high speed line is costly so are the seedbox or server...so they devide the line in many people..like for example on one 100mbit line there can be 6-8 users sharing that 100mbits

PS. ther are so many tutorials about seedbox...you should have searched first....

Thanks for the response, youve been very helpfull, just one more thing. Before I start downloading the torrent, how specifically will I choose to download to my server and not my Mac? Do I download the trackers directly to my seedbox and open them from there, that way they start downloading in the p2p client installed in my server?

well you can have both the options...but normally I download my torrent file in my PC/your mac. and the use the add torrent in my my client to upload torrent....well m8 I can say one thing..unless you try a box you can never learn it...you will see many users here who just learned while they were using the box...doesn't matter if you waste a day or half...

I was just about to create a topic for this.

    This really helped me.

Are there some seedboxes that give free test time so I can learn how to use these before paying for one? I have abysmal upload speeds and I'd really like to rent one but would rather learn first.

What you also could do, is just grab some old computer who i catching dust in some corner, install ubuntu server on it, and then some applications like rtorrent and rutorrent.

That way, you learn some about linux, and you can 'test' a seedbox. The only difference will be that the seedbox will be running at your homeplace, so you wont have 100 mbit speed, but your home upload speed.
