    Default FTP Speeds?

Hey guys, this might not necessarily be the right place for this so a Mod can feel free to move it.

I recently started using a seedbox from Feralhosting. In general I like the speeds and the price is great. What I am a bit confused about is the download speed using FTP. At best I get about 10 Kb/s download to my computer which takes foreverrrrrrrrrrr.

Since this is my first experience with a seedbox I was just wondering if this is about normal and if it is not is it more an issue with my home connection or on the seedbox's end? Honestly I can't see the need for having a seedbox if I have to have my computer on 24/7 just to download content anyways.

No, what your seeing is not normal, but u can only download as fast as your connection allows. Slow FTP speeds could be a handful of issues on the server side or on your end. Without more details its hard to diagnose exactly what your problem is. How fast is your internet speed at home? What FTP client are u using and did u try using a client that uses multiple threads or segmented downloading? Did u try using different FTP clients or talk to Feral support? Try and give as much details as u can so i can help u.

Sorry I didn't mean to be so vague. My home connection is 10 mb/s. I was using Fetch and the speeds were just as slow so I switched to Filezilla for the multiple thread support which is where I am currently still seeing the slow speeds.

Hey, dont worry about it. I was just trying to get some info, so i could help u thats all. Try using a client like CuteFTP so u could use multiple thread & segmented downloading. FileZilla only uses multiple thread, which is not the same as split downloading. If this still doesnt help your problem its more then likely a problem with the server provider.

Try running a ping or a tracert to your server ip and see what the results will be. If they are bad then u know its your server. If not try turning off your firewall, ant-virus and so forth. The biggest thing u need to do is try and narrow the cause down, but like Quevon said OVH (feral) has bad routing/peering issues to some countries and for some reason i believe that may be your issue.

OVH indeed has bad peering to large portion of USA. We have similar problems using OVH. FTP proxy solves this problem.

Superb Seedboxes starting from 5.06€ a month for TI members!
