Thread: First Time Seedbox - Recommend

Hi guys,

I have had never heard of a seedbox before i entered this website, because before that i was only part of demoniod. Now ive heard so much about seedboxes and how great they are. From this thread of mine

i found out that you can get great buffers with 1 month of seedbox too if you use it wisely. Now as i have never used it so i dont have much knowledge about them. Following are my requirments and if anybody could help me and guide id be greatful.

1. Price < $40
2. Personal Seedbox (not shared)
3. Easy to setup (im a total noob)



I quite frankly dont even know if you can get a personal seedbox for less than $40 but anyhelp would be great. Also if there is someway i can try a seedbox for a week or couple of days and understand and know how its used, then which place can i get one.

It's difficult if you want dedicated server with only 40usd...
You raise it a bit into 60 usd, then you get Feralhosting.com.

Well if you are a bit patient, you could apply on seedbox GA, like mine for instance, to see first what seedbox looks like.

First, I'd like to know why don't you want to use shared server? For first timer, it's better if you choose VPS with one week rent (just like what Xirvik offers) to make you understand what seedbox is and know how seedbox works.

After you understand enough you could put some other consideration like what will you use that seedbox for? For music trackers? Or 0/day trackers like SCC and SCT? Or BitmeTV? Because for music trackers you will need seedbox that provide unlimited active torrents, and for SCC/SCT/BMTV you will need seedbox that provide RSS downloading.

So, back to my answer above, it's better that you try VPS first. Good luck mate.. :D

i think your right mate... im waiting if i can get a seedbox test from here but if not id def rent 1 for a week.... my major trackers are

Bit-HDTV
AHD

Just a heads up for feral, it offers one for 30 euros (approx 49 USD), as mentioned by Princest Zelda, however they do not setup the server for you. You need to setup up everything yourself, which requires of linux knowledge (Though you may be able to do it by following guides).

I'm using for TL, they are fine with VPS and so is Bit Hd tv, but you do need to tell them. I can't remember where I read this but if someone else (on your VPS) on that tracker download same torrent there may be problems regarding stats.

shared seedbox is fine, as long you get your own IP address.
You only need to tell admin if you are sharing IP with other users.
VPS or Dedi means you have your own IP address and also root access.

But if you like uTorrent.exe, some members here in TI would be glad also to help you.

hey wats the difference between rtorrents and utorrent... i was looking at torrentswift.com (the banner thats running on TI nowdays) their first package does not support "Remote Desktop + uTorrent" but supports "rTorrent + ruTorrent webui" ?

uTorrent is torrent client application that everybody knows, it's .exe and run under windows platform.
However, you can run also .exe on Linux server, by using emulator like Wine.
The concept is, to run uTorrent.exe on Linux Desktop, remotely connected by software like VNC.
the uTorrent can also be connected into uTorrent webUI via HTTP server.

rTorrent is a Linux native torrent client. It's basically CLI (Command line interface), text-based, but more interactive.
It really does not fit to common people for using rTorrent std interface, therefore some people developed ruTorrent web UI, which has look n feel very similar like uTorrent web UI.
rTorrent consumes resources much more efficient than uTorrent. In addition you dont need to install remote desktop on Linux server, so you can free much memories and CPU just for torrenting.
