    Default Shared Seedbox Questions

I am thinking of getting a dedicated seedbox and offering up shares to those willing to split the cost (try to keep each share to $10). This looks like the best way to get a good seed box experience at a low cost. My preference would be Win OS with uTorrent/WebUI (lower learning curve, TorrentFlux seems a little pokey). I have a few quesitons for those who have done this before:

    1) do you run a separate uTorrent instance for each user to keep everything separate?
-if so, how should connections speeds be set relative to server speeds to avoid issues (do u just divide normal recs by number of instances or allow overload...)
    2) how many active torrs can u expect on a 2GB Win2K3 box (assuming 4 users, each with their own uTorr overhead)
    3) how do u track how much up/down people have done (to ensure no-one is monopolizing the box)
-does uTorr have some decent logging/stats
    4) can you have a shared uTorrent instance so all the users can cross seed very popular files or packs
    5) how do u avoid issues with users accessing the same files from the same trackers

I would appreciate any insights u can provide.

Well the plan has changed a little since I found out that Win2K3 will cost more per month. New questions:

    1) What Linux Dist do ppl rec for SeedBox?
    2) Do ppl rec Torrflux or Webui/uTorr/Wine?
    3) if TorrFlux what BTCLient?
    4) How many active torrs with 1GB mem on Intel 2180?
    5) how to avoid issues with one seedbox IP being used by many users on same tracker

Thanks for any insights u can provide...

Hi hakeem, well I cant answer all your questions but some:

    1) Ubuntu
    2) Wine + Utorrent WebUI
    4) Since Utorrent does not use much memory, maybe up to 6?
    5) Thats the tricky part!

    1) If OVH, DO NOT use Ubuntu, they have custom kernels and ubuntu is still beta with them, it may work, it may not. I use Debian with no problem.
    2) Wine/utorrent for me but a lot of people think otherwise.
    3) No idea, i think it appears as bitcomet or something to the trackers, not sure
    4) If solo on a giabyte memory box, you can run as many as u want. I have reached up to 50 at a time but chances are that bandwidth limitation will cause you not to be seeding properly
    5) Only 1 way. Contact the admin of the tracker and hope he is understanding.

there is a way to still get windows free with ovh
the more ppl that do it the loop hole will get closed
as for utorrent dosent use much power thats wrong
with the speeds you get from a server the disk write speeds can use up 30-40% of your cpu power
the thing you need to do is to set up some vps accounts on your server

Well, I have placed my order for an ovh dedicated box. It was an absolute farce trying to signup for an ovh box from Canada. I will not go into all the details but it involved the help of Bid.D29 and his SMS enabled cell phone with a +44 country code, contract terms that I had to agree to that were in French, a UK only order process that produced an email with a special link if u were not from the UK (??!?), a payment process that flipped to French during the credit card processing (!!!), and now having to wait 4 days to receive a letter to my home address confirming I am actually here.

When all is said and done I should have my ovh RPS (Real Physical Server). It is a smaller deidcated server than I was first planning because the whole ordering process shook my confidence a little. If it goes sideways I will only be out 10GBP (rather than the 90GBP for the min 3 months for the Kimsufi 2XL).

The plan is to install LAMP, Transmission and TorrentFlux on top of Debian and start seeing what one of those RPS boxes can do. If all goes well, I will see if the box can tolerate another TorrentFlux user and see if I can give an account away in the competition section (just need to think of an interesting competition).

Havent touched Unix for about 10 years so this should be interesting...

Progress update: after waiting 10 days my verification letter showed up (in French...).

Verification code worked and after a few hours I could now see my order as "in progress" in account manager!!

Will give it a couple days and hopefully then I will be busy setting TLMPT (TorrentFLux, Lightppd, MySQL, PHP, Transmission)!!

Got an email while I was at a concert that OS had been set up on my RPS1 plan and I was granted login credentials.

Started configuring elements when I got home and was seeding on ScT in less than an hour!! GUI seems VERY responsive compared to what I have experienced in the past on shared box. I will try some load tests tomorrow to see what this baby can do!! VERY happy so far!!!
