utorrent is great for its simplicity. Torrentflux is also pretty good but it's more of a frontend for bittornado or transmission than a real client.

Not a bad choice in either of these 3.

rtorrent and rutorrent(webgui) is the best in linux servers..utorrent must install wine first w/c really sucks

ruTorrent is the best out there for rtorrent I think. Its great that it can create torrents, and there is almost 0 lag and no slow page reloads. Torrent list is smaller size which can allow you to view many torrents running without scrolling so much. The downside to wtorrent is you must manually refresh, and if you want to view details about a torrent it also has to refresh the whole page, kinda inefficient considering we now have web 2.0... its better for a reason!

rTorrent is the most efficient and stable. Period.

I wasn't aware of ruTorrent, and from looking at their site it looks weak compared to wTorrent. ruTorrent doesn't seem to let you segregate by user. Has anyone else used both of these UIs to rTorrent? Can they also comment?

And also, does anyone know of any other UIs for rTorrent?

I have a question about rtorrent, sometimes when I'm downloading a file it says the full downloaded amount is downloaded when the percentage would be at like 75% and the speed would drop to 0.00KB/s and I would have to restart the torrent. Mind you that all my other torrents are seeding/downloading fine. This happens occasionally, and whatever tracker it happens on, the tracker usually reports the correct percentage finished. Any ideas as to what's the problem?

I'm currently running 3 servers with the superfast Cherokee webserver and TFlux B4rt - All run pretty smooth, low server load, multiuser. TransmissionCLi 1.73 - 1.74 running on all three of them which is the best choice of client with TFlux imo. Tornado 3.18 runs pretty crap with stats misreporting on almost all of my trackers. BitTorrent mainline not compatible or available without major tweaks, and Azureus through Tflux only runs with Fluazu as a proxy since Azureus considers itself a server.

I also have one server with Rtorrent running RuTorrent WebGUI on an OVH kimi C-05..One of my favorites for the cleanness and similarity to uTorrents interface. Unfortunately I still get better speeds sustained out of my TFlux boxes with my Server.lu DS2000 sjumping ahead of the pack consistently. I could be mishandling the RTorrent config as well since I don't know much about the client. Though I can even feel the snappiness of the server running this configuration - even the celeron D with 2G ram.

Thirdly I have another OVH kimi with uTorrent running over wine. easy setup, easy use, no problems. if you're a beginner and just want to get up and running as quickly as possible..This is it. Also, IRC autodownloaders from many scene trackers run fabulous on this setup. Wine doesn't use too much resources. uTorrent is the Ram hog and you must keep a VNC server open to keep wine and the utorrent client running. Which means that you have to use a very light window manager - FluxBox is the best, barebones..very minimal and fast. Or LXDE which has a bit more flavor but still light. There are plenty of tuts here at T-I to setup this configuration. BTW- It would seem that a Windows server running uTorrent would be the best option, but Windows and uTorrent don't offer the best in resource management..

Good news though, the folks at the B4RT forum have successfully integrated rTorrent with the TorrentFlux B4Rt frontend. There are some bugs that come up but for single users it's running. They are finding ways to implement multiple users/rtorrents on same IP as well as porting rtorrent daemon start/stop to the TFlux interface. Things are moving quickly though..Check it out:
    Tflux B4rt - rTorrentProject

All things considered, with some performance tradeoffs Torrentflux B4RT has the most powerful, extensible and easy to use admin interface of all of the WebGUI's and with the addition of RTorrent could be unstoppable once some the bugs are worked out.

I've seen those performance problems minimized using Cherokee, though in order to use RTorrent, you have to activate SCGI, which means a lighttpd webserver (with it's memory leaks unfortunately ) would be the next lowest resource hog..The point is to stay the hell away from apache while running any kind of torrenting server with webgui...Cherokee and NGinx both have very limited SCGI implementation and documentation is limited..

I'll be reconfiguring my server.lu AS2000 this week to run Rtorrent with TFlux frontend and see how it goes..It's pretty exciting if it works out.

It's also very important to note that in my experience, alot of seedbox users jump on newer torrents and use their boxes for buffer. I've seen my Server.lu's have faster and more consistent speeds outside of their net and to the world especially with older or less seeded torrents.

My OVH to other OVH boxes are blazingly fast, especially when I connect to newer torrents but speeds drop off when connecting to clients outside of ovh or to older torrents. I have an idea why this may be but its just my opinion so i won't include it. I'd like to hear what others think on that point.

I think another user above said it well, move beyond your webGUI and get into your seedbox to get the best of your configuration. The talk about speeds is really a moot point until you take control of your server. Otherwise you're relying on your seedbox provider to optimize for you. If you're a power user, then I think one would be always disappointed with webGUI's no matter how fast the client supposedly is.

I've only ever heard good things about rtorrent, but with the other two I always hear mixed opinions.

I have both wTorrent and ruTorrent.

    With wTorrent, you can:
    - setup multiple accounts

    With ruTorrent, you can:
    - label the torrents with the name of your friends and just trust them
    - show all torrents at once
    - stop pressing F5 repeatedly ^^
    - edit the columns by right clicking
    - show the torrents by tracker
    - edit the trackers of a torrent (plugin)
    - display the daily/monthly/yearly trafic (plugin)
    etc.

Just use uTorrent. its the most widely used torrent client. It has great feature allowing you to set how much you want to upload, how many peers/leechers you want connecting to you etc
