    Default Seedbox locations

Hi which is the best country for hosting seedbox in terms of efficiency and maximum upload speeds to leechers?I'm not talking about just the advertised max speeds.

Currently my seedbox is in luxembourg so is it a good place for the above reason? Is it the internal peering of the datacenters that maximises the upload speeds to leechers?

Anyone had experience with seedboxes upload speeds overall sustainability from different countries?

I don't think there's any one good answer to this question. It depends on where peers are typically located for the torrents you participate in. If your seedbox is in Luxembourg and everyone else in the torrent is in China, you may not get great speeds. On the other hand, if your seedbox is in Luxembourg and most peers in the torrent are also using seedboxes in Luxembourg, you'll probably get very good speeds. There also tends to be a bit of a speed barrier between continents, although sometimes those speeds are surprisingly fast.

So it's worth thinking about the trackers you use and where peers tend to be located; then, try to find a seedbox in the same country or same continent as the majority of your peers.

My seedbox is somewhere in germany... I'm finding it really hard to predict the speed of torrents. I've seen my box burst at about 30MB/s up with 15MB/s down at the same time. It usually hovers at about 1.0 to 2.5MB/s upload though. I suspect it depends on the quality of the peers as well as the quality of the seedbox.

As for the location, I've seen peers from random countries get really fast and really slow xfer rates. While I suspect your seedbox location would have bearing on your seeding performance, I think there are too many factors out of our hands.

If you're looking at maximizing the performance, I suggest looking for a seedbox host that doesn't have unlimited bandwidth and isn't the cheapest at the same time. That'll kind of weed out the services that are likely to have poorer performance... Not to say all that fit that description are like that... just likely.

TBH it really doesnt have much to do with the physical location sometimes. Its more what connections the datacenter has to the internet, other internet exchanges, and global connectivity in general. You may have a datacenter in the USA, but only good connectivity for the usa. the speed could be absolutley terrible outside of the country. There is only 1 datacenter that your seedbox would be located in if its in luxembourg, which is Server.lu / Root S.A.
    Decent connectivity globally.

USA Datacenters usually provide superior FTP speeds over their European counterparts.

As for speeds uploading or downloading, as stated above it all depends on where the majority of the peers are located :)

It depends on the datacenter. Each one can decide who they use as transit/peering providers and who they connect to.
For example. Before Softlayer had a datacenter in europe, they were really only concerned with US connectivity. However, now that they have their Singapore and Amsterdam datacenters and offer a global CDN service, they have expanded to have more connectivity and speed to europe and asia.

Some may have great, others may have almost nothing. You can always find out ahead of time too.

Another consideration is your privacy. a .com providor may provide an extra level of risk with the US Justice Dept feeling they have world wide jurisdiction over .com domains. Hence why I prefer European seedboxes.

hehe the way you worded that made me laugh but hell it sure it true!

Does it really matter though what domain it is? Figure if they had a problem with you, they wouldint care what the domain is??

RIP megaupload may we never forget you
