    Default Kimsufi questions

I'm thinking about renting a kimsufi box to use as a seedbox. I have pretty good Linux admin skills, so I'm not too worried about setting it up and securing it. But, I do have some questions more related to the business side of things and interacting with kimsufi. I searched around and found some information and opinion, but I'm still wondering about:

    - What personal information do you have to give kimsufi when you sign up?

    - What are their privacy policies?

    - Has anyone ever had their kimsufi box taken down? If so, why?

I guess the fact that I can get a dedicated 100MBit server for the price of a shared 100MBit slot seems a little too good to be true. What's the catch? Do the companies that resell kimsufi/OVH boxes give you anything besides server management for your extra money? Is it safer to go through a reseller?

    Thanks!

I dont know about personal information as i go through re seller usually for kimsufi :D
I never had my box taken down even when i download from public torrent :)
Just when you get DMCA notice just delete the file.

They can sell you cheap 100MBit dedicated because they own their own data center so they can sell it for cheap. If you dosent want to go through the hassle of verifying your account, etc you can always buy from Re seller as it is easier and some of them have instant setup and you just need to pay 3-5$ dollar extra from kimsufi original price :)

I recommend SeedRoots if you want to go through re seller.

They require the following personal information:

Real name, Address, Phone number and Email address. They verify this by asking you to scan and email a copy of your drivers liscence to them. This scares off alot of people.

Once you have the box you should be left alone unless you are blatently hosting something like a DDL site or child porn or something like that. I have seen servers been taken down but its very rare. They usually leave seedboxes alone.

Server management at times is definitely worth the money you pay sometimes but if your good with linux there are a few resellers who will sell you a kimsufi pretty cheap. SeedStuff.ca just opened up our unmetered dedicated boxes and if you pick your own unmanaged installation we give $5 off :)

    Hope this helps.

Everyone has covered it, but they actually ask for proof of identity (something with your photo on it) and proof of address. I sent them an edited version of my passport and a hydro bill.

Sometimes I think about going back to being a sysadmin as a day job. I think you have cured me of that notion.

Thanks, everybody! I understand a lot more about kimsufi and its relationship with resellers than I did at this time yesterday.

One more techie question that maybe someone knows the answer to: I see a few posts on the forum where people have gotten in trouble with kimsufi/OVH for removing the admin SSH key on their boxes. Does anyone know if OVH objects to other edits of the standard SSH configuration (e.g. changing ports, disallowing password access, disallowing root access)? The idea of sshd running on its normal port with password access open makes me twitchy.

They shouldnt mind. Its only there so they can get quick access if you raise a ticket. Really you SHOULD remove it. Best to back it up though. That way you can put it back if you need to raise a ticket where they may need to access the server.

https://www.seedunlimited.com/signup.php also got KimSufi 2G, select the Dedicated 100MBps 1TB plan it cost 29.99$ its instant signup and you don't have to manage it yourself. On the other hand i got my box at kimsufi.com just fill in my information and paid with paypal i never had to send them anny proof, then you have a unmetered kimsufi for 18 euro a month but you have to manage it yourself. I would just take the second option.
