    Default New To Seedboxes

Can someone help explain this to me?

I recently started using Seedboxsolutions. My ratio for TvTorrents is low because it seems many users of that site have a hard time uploading (me included) and so I wanted to give back. However, I received this email from Seedboxsolutions support:

"I think you are quite confused about seedboxes. They are completely independent of your home computer and line. What you have on your home computer, ie the data/content of a torrent file has nothing to do with your seedbox.

A seedbox is a separate computer on a separate line, All you are doing is remote controlling another torrent client on another computer. What you do is add the .torrent file to your seedbox as an alternative to your client on your computer which does teh downloading and uploading for you instead of your home computer/line.

If you want to download data from your seedbox you can connect to it via FTP client or through your browser (HTTP).

If you have data on your computer that you wish to seed you must upload that data to your download folder on server and then add the torrent
file to your seedbox WebUI. The seedbox client will then check files and then continue where left off or seed data if it is complete."

I don't understand. If a seedbox is separate from my computer, how do I use to to download and upload torrents? I thought this was going to be a lot simpler that it really is...

Edit: I see that you need an FTP to download content...how do I do that? I followed this tutorial, which suggested FileZilla, which comes with this insanely long and complicated guide that I've already run into several problems with.

Seedboxes are servers usually located hundreds of miles from where you currently are in remote locations .. you can connect to your seedbox because it usually

has a torrent client installed, usually rUtorrent.. Your torrent client is completely web-based and you need no modifications to your current system..

Instead of downloading to your computer you send the torrent file to your set-up seedbox which will start downloading/uploading the file for you.

FTP should be relatively easy as long as your service provider alreaedy provides one for you.. PM me for help if you need it..

    Hey,

First things first...make sure you know the rules regarding seedbox use at your tracker...just search the forums or ask an admin if they expect you to inform them about seedbox use...places like MyAnonamouse are a little more complicated as they have an extra addonn to install to firefox to allow you to use seedbox...so each site is different but usual practice is they'l need your seedbox IP which you should know (and would also need for FTP access).

    Secondly...the easy way is:

    1. You download the .torrent file from the tracker to your computer
    2. Usually you'll be using rutorrent...and theres a button that looks like the earth in the top left corner...this will allow you to upload the .torrent from your computer to the seedbox
    3. The torrent should start downloading (make sure you use the tabs on the left...all/downloading/completed/active and so on so have it on all if you want to be viewing all the torrents on your seedbox)
    4. Once the torrent is downloaded on your seedbox...you can use filezilla to download the files to your computer....all you need to do is enter the IP, username and password which should have been supplied to you...
    5. Once you have filled in the above 3 details and press connect, you should be able to view the files on you seedbox in the right column windows explorer like (the acctual downloaded files might be in one of the default folders where it downloads)
    6. Just drag the files you want to get from your seedbox(right side) to the folder you want to download it to on your computer which should be on the left side

Once you get the hang of it...then i think you'll understand more and will be able to follow the guide you had problems with or even then use CuteFTP which usually downloads faster.

    Hope this helps

A seedbox is basically a torrent client that is installed on a computer, this computer is hosted in a datacenter with good infrastructure and a very fast connection to ensure it runs 24/7.
The process is actually very simple: You download the .torrent file from your tracker and add it like you add it to your home client, but instead you use the web application from the specific torrent client. If you your seedbox uses rutorrent it looks basically the same as utorrent, but it's accesseable through the web.

The files are then stored on the remote computer and you can access them and download them to your home computer via FTP.
There exist a couple of good FTP clients, but it depends on your operating system. I assume you use Filezilla.

You just need to add another server, add the login details you got from your provider and you will see an index like on your computer, now you can drag and drop it to your desktop and it will download.

The torrent client is called rtorrent and rutorrent is merely a Web GUI that looks like utorrent.

EDIT: I usually hate when people respond to already answered questions, sorry for that, but I had this thread open for 6 hours without hitting submit ....

Thanks everyone for putting it into easy to understand lingo. I'll see if I can get FileZilla to work. If not, I might be back with more questions :P

Update: Alright, so my WEBUI has an IP in the URL. I put this into "Server IP" for FileZilla, and I put the password I use to login to my seedbox. Now FileZilla is unable to connect and is retrying every ten seconds or so. Did I do something wrong?

for filezilla u need 3 simple things: The IP, Username and Password.

Just make sure you have entered all 3 properly, ensuring correct case (Caps).

If that still doesn't work, just post the error message here which should allow us to help you better.
The error message should come up before it says reconnecting.

Or, you could also contact your seedbox provider to help you by posting the error message to them by posting a ticket at their site.

You are using FileZilla SERVER! Since you want to connect to a different machine, you just need FileZilla (the client) @ FileZilla - Client Download and very probably no need to worry about the port number then unless you got SPECIFIC instructions from your seedbox provider to use a different port than 21 or 22.

Yup...as DutchRuff said....ur using the wrong program .....u want the client version from the above link he gave....download the top (.exe one) if your using windows (on home computer) and then install the downloaded filezilla on your home computer.

Once you have installed it...start the application and follow the steps given previously..

Thanks everyone, I'm a fool! Now my problem is that FileZilla is telling me that my username/pass are wrong, which is confusing. I have an email with a pass that I use for my main account, but then the WEBui has its own username (not email) and pass that I use. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe I have the wrong IP (but I'm copying from the URL...) or something.

    SeedboxSolutions.com - Knowledgebase

But I'm very inclined to say: either contact Seedboxsolutions, or get a tech-savvy friend involved or step away from the PC.
