Default SFTP server setup for Torrentswift

    Hey,

I've been trying to find a guide for this all over the place.
I need to get SFTP going instead of FTP to try and lessen my ISP's traffic shaping.

Every guide i try to follow has run into problems doing this so far, possibly due to some strange settings on Torrentswift setups.
Anyone had any experience with this?

    Thanks,
    Blingjug

    Hey blingjug,

There is a guide over at TorrentSwift or setting SFTP up: torrentswift - Knowledgebase - What is FTP anyway? How do I retrieve my files using secure FTP?

If you have trouble getting it to work, let us know and we'll help

When you have a traffic cap there is nothing you can do because traffic is traffic, no matter what kind of traffic and secured or not secured. SSL can only protect you from third parties from seeing what you are transfering, but not that you are doing it.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that FTPS /=/ SFTP

SFTP merely encrypts the login process over a secure shell (SSH), while FTPS on the other hand encrypts the complete data stream with SSL, the latter one is definitely prefered, because it's the only method to secure you from the above mentioned.

The guide darkknight posted explains on how to use FTPS and is therefore the correct one.
