Default how to download files form a seedbox

    Hello all.
i need to download files from my seed box and i noticed FTP is MUCH slower than HTTP.

i tried several download managers/offline browsers but none worked. i admit thoughi tested them on a seedbox that uses the format http://4.seedstuff.ca/username. which is different from my current seedbox that uses the format https://username.seedunlimited.com

i only found a few offline borwsers than support https. none worked.

with seedunlimited, cuteFTP seems to work. but it's buggy and i get alot of download failures. any other suggestions please.

i will keep testing and let you know if i found anything to help others dealing with the same issue.

    thank you

I know your problem I also can not get high speed from my seedbox. It is maximum of 2 mb / sec, if it goes well. But my impression is that the FTP connection is the best method. I usually set it to overwrite the files if they should fail. So is the size smaller, and the client will overwrite the small file and download the complete file.

I usually set it to download from FTP overnight. My favorite client is FileZilla.

I hope this is a help, good luck!

No clue where you are downloading to but both regions you living/lived in are not generally known for their extremely good peering to EU-based seedbox-providers. That said, if seedunlimited is providing you with a machine in the Netherlands, you can probably experience quite awful FTP to the North-American mainland.

I would suggest: let it rest, get FileZilla and accept slower speeds while downloading overnight.

I would suggest using CuteFTP. Filezilla works great, however when it can't max out your connection you need an FTP client that supports multi-part transfers, which CuteFTP does pretty well. Also, if you have much better HTTP speeds, you could consider getting the filemanager/share plugins if you're using rutorrent. It works pretty well for me. Although since you seem to have a seedbox, you might have to contact your provider to find out whether they would install that for you.

I do have a file manager installed on my seedbox. it's called AjaXplorer. i tried downloading entire directories. but the download option is not available. only thing i can do is pick highlight a file and download it. not a folder. that is assuming i am using it right. have you ever used AjaXplorer?

i did try CuteFTP with multipart downloading. it didn't perform as good as HTTP. i am now using CuteFTP with HTTP instead of FTP. it seems to be ok for now. i get "404-file not found" errors on some folders. i have a full series. it's in rar files, each episode is in its own folder split into 24 rar files. one of the episodes of season three is giving me a 404 error. although the folder does exist and i can download it using other methods.

basically, i am looking for an application that does site rip and supports https with authentication. i can live with cuteFTP doing http for now. but would like to perfect the process eventually.

i also noticed if i download multiple files at once in HTTP, my total throughput is improved. but i need to toggle back and forth depending on file sizes.

Well I really can't think of anything that would be better than what you're using now. Well that's assuming you're on windows/mac. I'm on linux primarily, and I don't have the fastest connection so I don't really suffer from bottlenecks. The only high speed transferring I do is server to server, and I prefer to use SCP. However if you do come across any filemanager that does what you would like, let me know. Don't get your hopes to high though, coz I've been looking for something similar for ages. Yes I have used AjaXplorer and its pretty cool. I prefer the rutorrent plugin, not because its better, but simply because it does a kinda similar job, and is just a plugin. However, AjaXplorer does have a lot more functionality though so if you have that stick to it.

i'll let you know if i find anything.
note that i discovered the failures in download (404 error) happens when there are are charecters in the file names or folders (anything that is not a period or a space. they show up as a %20 etc. these fail. the rest work fine with CuteFTP using HTTPS protocol.

    thanks.

Use FileZilla & FTPS on your FTP server and set your maximum simultaneous downloads to 4. That is how I capped mine out. When I had it as 1-2, I could not seem to cap it.
