you are until you make it insecure.

Linux is not vulnerable to any viruses unless your using an ancient distro but wine can get infected and also spread viruses to windows machines. Java apps can get infected too but how many seedboxes have java installed

Linux can be faster, due to no GUI, and smaller footprint on ram. Think of bare minimum on operating system that all it does is data exchange.

Windows server is actually very stable, and on mine i have installed:

    COPSSH
    uTorrent1.8.1
    CCProxy

Thats pretty much all you need if you have RDP with it and it isnt the Core Edition. Make sure to do all the updates, Block/Open ports in the firewall, and remove unneeded network card protocols. All you should see in there is TCP v4/v6. Mine was this setup and I regularly hit 70 - 90 MB/s up and down, and never was hacked. Im sure there are LOTS of other options you could do to lock the server down, but really you dont need to if it is R2.

To be honest, if it does the job, who cares! :)
