Default 100 % anonymous with VPN?

    Hey!
I use HideMyAss as my VPN provider, and when I am out traveling, let's say I stay at a hotel. Internet is included in the cover, but to get online you have to provide both your room number and your last name. I'm not very interested that the hotel can see my internet history. So the question is, will I be 100 % anonymous if I use HMA after I'm online (meaning given them my room number and last name)?

It's not 100% at all. It depends what you are planning to do there, because if you just don't want them to know that you are watching porn or something like that it's enough, but you should keep in mind that if you use a VPN provider they will always know what you are doing.
If you plan on doing something highly illegal the feds will have you in less than 5 minutes, but I'm not going to explain how you can avoid that. I think that's all you need to know.

If you need help feel free to PM me, but keep in mind that asking for an invite is not considered help.

The hotel cannot see your internet history, because all the traffic will be encrypted between the server and you. You want for example see a website, the request is encrypted when left your computer and the VPN server access the site and then the information is encrypted and sent to you.

    Alright, thanks guys.

How about downloading files from a seedbox using encrypted ftp and vpn? Is it recommended to stay away and wait till I get home?

Your ISP has exactly the same information about you and even more, so it doesn't really matter and using a VPN and seedbox is pretty secure, but nowhere 100%.

Use SFTP and a VPN if you're really paranoid. You'll be fine.

Ehhm... Where on Earth did you get this information? I have to ask: are you sure?

Cus what a VPN does, is encrypting the information. In other words, without a VPN, a ISP will see this:
    Dexter.S06.E02
    [File list]
    4, 24 GB

With a VIP, it should look like this:
    10101101010101011010100100010110101010101101010101 01010101010101010110101011011011101010100001001001 011111100101

But if I'm wrong, please take the effort of explaining this to me.

BTW, to OP, Hidemyass is the shittiest VPN provider you can have. Get a VPN that does not keep logs.

PM asking for invites on your own risk. If your PM is incredibly stupid, it WILL be posted in the mocking block.

What are you referring to with this point... "even more"

@VPN or not, they can't do anything to you about surfing a website or its pages....

ye they can, if it's illegal. But obviously everything everyone in this forum does is 100% legal. right? :P

No, I meant something totally different, because SSL encryption is obviously SSL encryption, unless it's compromised.
What I was referring to was the personal information that the ISP has, because tulleball was concerned that the hotel has his/her roomnumber and name.

It's just me personally, but I don't trust VPN providers, because you are basically hoping on good faith on their part that they really are logless. They are also extremely overpriced usually, because the resources for a VPN are extremely low.

If you need help feel free to PM me, but keep in mind that asking for an invite is not considered help.
