Ya, If you have a internet with great upload speeds. Then they are not. Its just my internet is 6MB Down, 800KB Up. So, It takes me way longer to upload what I download to atleast get ratio of 1:1. I like to download faster then I can upload. So, I got a seedbox so I can do this such thing.

so, If you don't mind waiting to get 1:1 ratio with your home internet, or have fast enough internet. Then, you don't need one.

My mum reckons a seed box is not necessary, but it helps, for growing her annuals

I never use a seedbox.... i`m from romania and my connections are:

On romanian trackers Down : 10mb/s Upload: 4-5mb/s
On extern trackers : Down: 5-6mb/s Upload: 200kb/s

I mentain a decent ratio(1:1) on many trackers(TT. what.cd, waffles, bitme, m-v) but seeding like this: http://i43.tinypic.com/15ezadc.jpg for long time.

They are necesary for a good ratio. If you are on SCC or SCT having a seedbox and downloading a pack will bring you in no time to 30 GB per pack if you have a good connection

WHen you want to support the tracker to keep seeding stuff it's highly recommend. Also when your uploading your own stuff !

Of course raresh, you can brag about your RDS connection all day, but once you can get ONLY UPC then that's called being 'loved' in the back the hard way. Anyway, it's to be seen if they can upgrade their networks to that DOCSIS 3.

you have to consider too that some time its more easy and cheep to you buy a seedbox than to pay for expensive energy... ^^

I'm sorry I havent been on the thread in a while. I definitly understand the coolness of having a full fledged server devoted to you. I would definitely want a seedbox, but its way too much to pay for just torrents. A usenet account is cheaper, you can leech for free, and you get better pretimes than any tracker.

Also, for a whole year, rapidshare cost about 55 euro. which is less than 5 euro per month. a few months ago, i got an account for the month, and it was awesome. 2.6 gig daily limit rolls over to the next day if you don't use it. Given that I don't have much freetime during the week, it works out well. Speeds are great. It was pretty much dling at will.

Seedbox isnt necessary for most of the trackers but they can help a lot. I got invite for bithdtv yesterday and i got more than 170gigs uploaded in 24h. And i think after 1 month expires i'll have enough big buffer to download anything forever. So if you can afford it (i pay 15$/month) it's nice to get SB for 1 month, get nice buffer and then dont care about downloading too much anymore. The only problem is that once you have it, you dont want to give it up :D
