Default Level of paranoia for payment of a Dedicated server?

    Hi all,

I've just signed up with OVH for a dedicated server, which I plan to use almost exclusively for leeching/seeding. I've been wondering what a reasonable level of paranoia is for paying for your dedi. Hell, they already have my driver's license and bank statement, will it really do any good for me to set up a prepaid card for payment (that I ALSO have to supply my SSN for)? I could get a 0% foreign transaction fee with a credit card (I'm American, OVH takes Euros), but with a Visa prepaid you have to pay a 3% surcharge.

    Any other drawbacks/benefits?

If you've already had to provide that type of info I'm thinking pre-paid credit is probably not going to help you out at all. Any inquiries are going to be based on IP, which links to a server, which links to your name, address etc. No ones going to care how you paid for it.

I haven't been through the OVH verification process, do they allow you to change your details once you are verified? Do they say they will destroy all copies of your paperwork once you are verified? If you can modify your name, address etc it might be worth doing that and going prepaid if you want. Wonder how they backup database transactions, how long they are retained etc. I imaging at some point in time they wouldn't be able to revert/lookup previous details.

If you had a server transferred to you, where you haven't had to verify yourself, then I would use a prepaid, otherwise go with the savings by paying direct.

    Qaw is right here.

However I wouldn't be too paranoid Zoomnis.
I mean your using a server hosted in Europe as a seedbox on private sites.

That right there is the definition of paranoia.
There are going to be a lot more easier people to go after.

exactly what freu said .. you are gonna use it for torrenting as a seedbox and as far as i remember from our chat backup ftp right ? you have no idea what some people do with their boxes .. i won't even mention that here .. run hacking/illegal softwares and shit like that .. its for them these verification info is required .. not for you .. ovh is pretty friendly with just running a seedboxes and encourage using there servers as an ftp .. don't worry too much :)
