Thread: Accessing your seedbox at work - is it safe?

I just purchased a seedbox which I accessed while at work to see my stats. Then it dawned on me that I'm on my works network (NHS server) is this likely to get me into hot water with IT or will they not notice or be bothered?

I would say its not safe. If your boss needs excuses to fire you, he will find it.
I personally use both transmission and rutorrent at office before, IT can find them even its a http port. they blocked me accessing the seedbox.

it all depends...the best bet is to remote desktop to your home computer on a secure channel and check your stats there.

So would you say the problem would be using the company network for private use - if so I won't have a problem we all access ebay etc. without problem - so long as its not excessive.

What I'm concerned about is the fact that I'm accessing a torrent seedbox. What do you think?

well, If I see anyone doing torrent on my network, I will tell them to stop right away or else. :)

Well they aren't as, he said he is not torrenting from work, just monitoring his seedbox.

I doubt this would raise any kind of red flag at work, so IT would not even be aware, unless they were doing a specific audit on you, and even then, I doubt they would care. I really would not worry about it. While torrenting could certainly land you in hot water if you did it over your office network, just accessing your seedbox via ruTorrent, won't be an issue.

God no I wouldn't dream of torrenting - just accessing my stats :)

Does your IT have certain websites blocked/firewalls when browsing the internet on the company network, if so then I would think you would be ok if you are still able to access your seedbox.
