Default Increase size of seedbox or get a second one?

As subject line really. I got my first seedbox earlier this month (250Gb, 500Mb RAM, unmetered) and pretty much it's been full since day two or something due to my addiction to downloading blu-ray and dvd-r images lol. It's doing great things for my ratio but I'm now in the position where I'm having to sacrifice downloads with peers and decent speeds to make room for newer stuff. Ideally I'd have space for it all but sadly 250Gb isn't enough.

So... should I upgrade my existing box to say 500GB or would I be better off getting a second 250Gb box and using both? I'm not sure if a bigger box is going to be better re: seedbox RAM, speeds (I'm not maxing that out though, so it's not really a speed issue), how trackers might view two seedboxes from the same user - I'm new to them so that might be a noob question (sorry!) I'd presume that so long as you weren't trying to seed from two different IP's/seedboxes at the same time then all would be okay? Please correct me if I'm wrong on that!

    Any input gratefully received

buy 4 seedboxes and hire a manager & secretary!
standart tracker policy is to have at max 3 different ip's for one torrent (between them, only one can be a leech). there can be exceptions like at hdbits they don't give a damn if you're leeching stuff from 2 locations at once.. so you're on safe side. though for your most active trackers won't hurt to list your seedboxes in profile... without exact ip's
seriously, for full blu-rays abhdtv.net+astraweb should be less money consuming

    Cheers for the reply AK74.

Mentioning my seedbox in my signature on the trackers I'm using it with is on my to-do list (have yet to hire manager & secretary to do it for me lol!) is there a good etiquette for this? Obviously without giving away compete IP addresses. E.g. quoting partial IP addresses e.g. 123.456.789.xxx perhaps?

I think if I did go for a second box I'd be doing something along the lines of this...

    Box #1, Tracker #1, Torrent #1
    Box #2, Tracker #1, Torrent #2

^ I wouldn't download the same torrent onto two different boxes but along with my home IP address there would be three IP's accessing the tracker.

PS Have been an annual subscriber with Astraweb for a few years now... that's how bad my addiction is lol! Sadly though the stuff I like film-wise is left of mainstream so isn't really well catered for on newsgroups.

..for accessing the tracker, they usually don't give a damn about ip numbers as long as it's limited to seedboxes & your country ip range
..that's why i mentioned abhdtv.net - they're just as good as hdbits for full bd purposes
ps, yeah, seedboxes in a good %% of cases is a sign of addiction :)

Lols you say that like it's a bad thing! I think I'll update a few tracker signatures with my ISP, it's speed and my seedbox country/location today. Better to be safe than sorry.

I still don't know what to do about the box though. It could be that this is an initial "OMG I'd grab everything and seed it into oblivion..." reaction and that in a month's time I'll not be stuck for space and feel like I've wasted the extra cash. Or maybe not... since when has a big buffer on trackers been a bad thing?!

I reckon that if money isn't a problem at all, then you should invest in another box. Perhaps it's definitely more beneficial when it comes to RAM and the speed of the seedbox you're on. However, most cases, the price per GB of storage decreases the more you "upgrade"/increase the plan of your box. There are also other services that have add-on plans for sizes.

Additional storage+current plan will fare cheaper than an upgraded plan AND two seedbox plans, but that's where you get the suffering of RAM and what not. My suggestion would be to go for the middle line, which is to get an upgraded plan altogether. First of all, you only have one account to manage apart from having two, and you don't have the risk of using too much IPs. But as AK74 mentioned, usually it isn't a problem with most trackers. And anyways, I think that RAM is one of the least concerns when it comes to purchasing a seedbox unless you're running your own server. At least in my opinion. Hope that helps! :)

Cheers for the ideas Vogue re: my current plan/upgrade options.

I already have 250Gb, unmetered with 500Mb RAM, that cost 147.63€ for 12 months so I can...

    1. Get a second one, (+ 250Gb of space) and pay 147.63€ again.

    2. Add 5x 50Gb of space to my existing box for (19.99€ per 50Gb x5) = 99.95€.

    3. Upgrade my plan entirely to a 500Gb one at 24.95€ / month (€299.40 ) minus the 147.63€ I already paid = 151.77€

    - That is quite a price difference! The cheapest being the 'add to my existing box' option #2. I'm erring towards that. Maybe just adding 100Gb to it at first and seeing how I get on. I just hope I don't start falling foul of RAM/hardware limitations. Putting all your eggs in one basket and all that.

ive done it both ways - upgrading one box and getting a second; for me, it has always depended upon what i wanted to accomplish. when you consider that you could use a seedbox to just seed - and that all the content is really disposable, you're using the seedbox to build ratio - so what would the most important factors be? it seems high bandwidth and more diskspace. if you need / desire to seed scene releases, it seems that higher bandwidth would be the first priority becuase you'd just be churning conent, what does it matter; also if you're planning to have BD50+ files seedinig, does bandwidth matter as much as diskspace? for example, i've been seeding a 150gb moviepack on a 10gbs seedbox - at first it was great to download so fast, but what i ultimately need is more storage so i can keep it there becuase upload is only 100kbps

Yeah, big price difference indeed! I don't think RAM would be a problem for you, it might be really frustrating to add torrents as it uses up RAM, but other than that it shouldn't be a problem. It's such a small thing compared to paying additional 50 Euros or so!

I would NOT recommend using more than one seed box. If you are downloading and seeding from multiple IP addresses, this is a sure way to get banned on private trackers. Unless you contacted the admins and gave them your IP address to each seed box and they were ok with it. But I think that would be more trouble than its worth to have separate seed boxes for separate trackers. I would invest in ONE SUPER SEED BOX!!!!

Also, just curious, who is your provider?
