Thread: 100MB/s Dedicated or 1GB/s Shared

Hi guys. As per my last thread you may know that i am looking for a seedbox (uk)

I have found a few companies and currently working out which one i want.

What I want to know is,
One company is offering a 1 GB/s line (shared between a max of 10 users)
the other is offering a 100Mb/s line (dedicated to me).

For the same price, which one would i be better off with?



By my reckoning it is the difference between 6 and 2x3 ?

Its a close call between the two.
A gbit connection shared with 10 people would give an avg. of 100mbps. You would still see better speeds than 100mbps most of the time though, due to not everyone will be using the connection all the time.

With a dedi 100mbps connection, you should see full speeds all the time.

Personally if the price / specs are the same I would go with the dedi 100mbps

With 100Mbs dedi you will have no problems seeding any tracker. You do not need 1Gbs unless it is shared. Personally I would go for the dedi all things being equal.

Other things to look at on shared server is the other resources. Is the hdd shared and between how many. If you have 4 people on an hdd, then having 1Gbs becomes redundant. Do you have dedicated RAM. What processor are you sharing.

You may find on shared servers that it is not the link speed that is the bottleneck.

With shared resources you could be lucky and be on there with 9 light users, or you could be unlucky and be on with a few resource hogs.

I would say get the 100MB's dedicated, I have the 1GB's $35 shared from SeedMyBox and speeds are terrible I have had it for a week now and never gone over 4MB's upload and that's the best speed iv'e had on new popular torrents, my usual speed is 500kbps, and for some reason torrents keep randomly crashing.

Well, gbit shared can be great, but only if its configed properly. I'd just go with the 100mbit dedi. Your speeds will always be consistently there, and nobody else to share any resources with.
