You need to VNC into your server and run the speedtest from there. I had to SSH through putty and turn on tightservervnc and then vnc in and run the test virtually. Hope this helps.
I would love to know how to do this as well. I'm a complete noob when it comes to linux but I do know to use VNC somewhat. At least good enough to add/delete/make new torrents.
great question..i too would like to know cuz many times i wanted an invite to a site but didnt post in the thread..cuz, i have no clue how to get a speed test on my box.
the company says its 1GB master uplink but when i tried using the browser to test it, it barely went over 1Mbit..but, DLing a torrent takes only seconds, so yea im lost....lol
run a vnc client (i use toghtvnc) and enter your server IP with :5901 or :01 without any spaces after it. Once you have connected it will ask for you to enter your username and password...should be the same ase your ftp account...once inside your you should see your desktop with an applications bar in linux...open the browser and go to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and there you go. Typically you cant copy and paste your results so you should take a screenshot to save. Hope this helps...
I've posted a more in depth tutorial here:
