Thread: Expressions of Interest - Share a 1Gbit Dedi Seedbox!

Hi Folks,

Frizz here, andi and I are looking to recruit a third person to share a dedicated seedbox.

All resources & cost of the server are to be equally shared.

Specifications of the Box:

• RAM.........8GB
• HD..............1TB
• Transfer........1GBit
• Location...........France
• Monthly Cost......AUD110

• Your Share of Cost...AUD37...approx...USD33

It will be a Linux box and we are proposing uTorrent for all three users.

We are currently organising the configuration, IPs, etc...

We are aiming for this box to go live in the next few days



So, at this stage, please post here and then PM either andi or I for further details.

Ability to pay your share of the setup costs (at this stage this is unknown, but not anticipated to be significantly nasty.) and the monthly cost approx USD33 on time is mandatory

So, drop us a line, we're a nice couple of guys living on opposite sides of the world, so one of us is usually awake to chat (good for looking after the server too).

We think it's a great opportunity to get a lot for a little!

is this the offer from customseedbox? if it is, why not directly go to digicube and cut out the middle man? If you were to go directly through digicube I would be interested as long as its a 3 month commitment and rtorrent instead of utorrent could be used.

Don't you have to be a french citizen to order from digicube? They have great prices and going directly to them it's a good ideea, but I can't see any english interface to their site so it's hard for me to understand everything. This I understand though" Offre uniquement valable pour la France métropolitaine. ".

We are interested in a long term commitment.

As for utorrent vs rtorrent I like wine+utorrent on a linux box because you can customize it better, it's widely accepted and I only had good experiences with it. So far I had a couple rtorrent seedboxes and both of them were significantly slower when compared to my utorrent ones. This is just my experience. Anyway this can be discussed and if you really want it I guess rtorrent can be installed because it will be our seedbox and ultimately we can install other programs.
I hope this answers all your questions.

As Frizz said we are still planing the configuration. Nothing is set in stone, but those are the things we agreed on. If you think something might work better we are open to suggestions as long as they will improve our overall seedbox experience.

We're currently assessing DigiCube and in advanced discussions with Custom

We've ascertained Digicube will accept business from any country.

We're weighing up Support vs Cost vs Performance considerations

Looks interesting, wanted to share a dedi privately knowing exactly how many users on it..

How to you plan to divide resources equally? and will each user will get his own ip number?

Hi Horror,

We're currently deciding on whether to complete the set-up ourselves, or have it done by the folks at Custom. However, the result will be the same. Resources will be divided server side, much the same as with a "shared" type plan. Therefore, fair use is assured. Of course, we retain the benefits of root access, knowing who we're sharing with and limiting that to three users.

Each user will have their own IP

Important update DigiCube are no longer being considered.

This just in from andi via PM:

After reading some of the reviews on the net turns out digicube has a no download policy (no torrents) and if you go over 1TB/week traffic they start limit your bandwidth and do checks on you.

Who completes the setup, the provider or us will be decided within the next 24 hours. If you Horror, or any other interested person has specific skills in this area, please let us know as it would clearly be a factor towards keeping it "In House".

I'm not sure why you say this, as they have always stated they are reselling OVH

From the Customseedbox Features page:

All server slots are resold from the OVH network in Roubaix, France.

Have just received a PM from jb123 showing a screen cap of discussions with Custom it turns out they are indeed reselling DigiCube for the new plans.

One therefore presumes, or at least hopes, they have some sort of understanding with DigiCube regarding torrents and transfer. I upload around 1TB per week per seedbox at present. So, Custom's customers would be constantly exceeding the reported limit (as per andi's PM).
