I need one thing clarified here...

Do we have to pay in full for the whole 3 months upfront (210E) or just agree to use the box a minimum of 3 months but pay month to month?

So does all the money MikeD collects have to go to the first box or just 3 user's worth and he's holding the rest to either order more boxes or just pay off the first one entirely if we run into bandwidth caps/throttling?

    Ditto what PEBCAK said.

Also, the 24E figure that Andi mentioned earlier, is that really 24E*2? That would make more sense, as that puts us at 27E for the first part, and then an extra 48E for the rest of the time, putting each user at 75E (enough for 1 share of a box for 3 months, assuming 3 users per box).

Well, im not exactly sure here either, but i can say i dont want to hold any extra money or anything. I just dont want to be responsible for other people's money for that long like that. I hope nobody takes offense to that in anyway.

Also, im pretty sure u can only pay quarterly at Digicube, so we may have to pay all 3 months upfront. I never used them before nor tried to order one yet, so im not 100% sure how there pay system works. Lets just wait to see what andi or Frizz have to say cause i think they know. I plan to get in touch with Digi some time tomorrow to ask questions and talk about all types of options. Its been a busy weekend for me and I will make sure i keep everyone informed on what they say.

    I'll quote Andi here,

Quote Originally Posted by andi View Post

If we go with Phenom that's 70E/month.

    70E*3 = 210E
    210E/8 = 26.25E/user

We all send 27E to Frizz to get the server.(and buy himself a beer with the extra 0.75c ;))

After a week the 3 users who get the server for the rest of the period increase their contribution to 67E/each to cover the initial costs with a little discount and get the first server all to themselves.

The rest of 5 will be left with (67-27)*3=120E...that's 24E/user. At this point one can get his money and walk away if he is not happy or add the extra amount and get a new server along with other 1-2 users.

This way the new servers can get any configuration and the total cost will be paid only by the server users.

What do you guys think about this? To me it seems fair. The 3 users get a 3E discount each for having other 5 on their server for a week and the other 5 get refunded 3E less because they used the box for that week.

It's quite a creative way of doing things. I found it a bit odd when I first read it due to the fact it was the middle of the night for me. So, I just trusted that it made sense. Right now it's the middle of the day and I've had some coffee, so I have no excuse... and luckily it does makes sense ;~D

Everyone who's in for the test helps fund the getting of the box (3 months minimum). However, those who leave the box after the test week, either because they decide they don't want to be on Digi, or because they wish to be on a subsequently ordered box are refunded in a roughly pro rata fashion. Those who wish to stay of the first box then pay their share of the 3 months (full box cost/3), less what they have already paid.

I for one would like to stay on the first box if all goes well, as I'm happy to pay for 1/3rd of the Phenom. Others who want a cheaper monthly cost would most probably put their hands up to move to another box. Another motivation for sorting this may be, those wanting a particular software configuration, may find it easier to inhabit the same server.

If all the above seems a little too complicated (the rearranging after the test week would involve a fair few PayPal transactions), here are two alternatives I would like to offer:

First alternative. I would be willing to pay 1/3rd of the Digi Large for 3 months and report back to everyone after week 1, week 2 etc... This would involve 2 other people willing to risk being test subjects with me. The risk is one down side, folks having to wait a little more to get torrenting is another (though I imagine most of us already have existing seedbox arrangements).

A second alternative, would be that I volunteer to pay the cost of a Digi Small for 3 months. It could be in MikeD's name and he could set it up perhaps? Then either he or I, or he and I would Torrent on it like CrAzY!!! see what happens and then report back?

Sorry if I'm complicating things with these additional options, just trying to simplify the number of financial transactions.

I'm happy to go ahead with any of these 3 Test Cycle options.

    Cheers,

Jumping ahead slightly, but I think it's worth thinking about now...

Providing we get passed the test stage. I think it would be best to have one DigiCube account holder per box. This account holder collectors the funds and pays for the box they are on. The current plan of having all the boxes ordered through one account, exposes the account holder to too much financial risk (Mainly at renewal and not out of pocket risk, but the risk of defaulting an account held in their name) and subjects them to too much administration work. Collecting from and liaising with only two others would be much more manageable.

Another idea would be to have the "technical people" shared across the boxes too.

Just something to ponder should we reach stage 2

    Cheers,
    Frizz

Thanks Frizz for explaining my post in a simpler way. I will try to sumarize it even more:

We all pay 27E to MikeD and at the end of the testing period the 3 users who get the box will refund those who leave the server 24E back.

After you get refunded you can either leave or order another server with the config you prefer along with other users who left the first server.

    Nice one Andi, very concise!

Quevon, it would be great to have you a part of this. However, yes, we'll just have to see if those who expressed interest first are ready to pay and be on the test run.

After the test though, servers can be organised in groups of 3 users (or whatever folks want).

Oh and no, it would only be 27Eur each for the test run as 8 people would be contributing.

    Cheers,
    Frizz
