    Here’s a neat Windows 7 trick that’s been doing the rounds on the Internet. It enables “GodMode,” a term devised by the Microsoft development team, which provides a single place to access all Windows settings without needing to browse options and folders in the Control Panel. To use it:

    1. Create a new folder.
    2. Rename the folder to GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
      (note that you can change the “GodMode” text, but the following period and code number are essential).
    3. The folder icon will change — double click it to show the GodMode window:

    The window shows nearly 50 sections with quick links to configuration options. Strictly speaking, it’s not a God Mode since all the options are available elsewhere. It’s more akin to an “all tasks” list — but you may find it easier than stumbling through Windows numerous screens and panels.
    Big Red Warning!

    The trick appears to work on both the 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Vista 32-bit and Windows Server 2008 32-bit should also work. However, it is known to crash 64-bit versions of Vista — and you may need to boot in safe mode or to the command line to delete the folder.

    I like it.
    Thanks Rocco.
    I hate navigating through MS's shitty control panel.
    This puts everything in one easy to access place.
    The question is.. why do we need to do all this, why isn't it already a setting for the control panel..

    So this will work sweet as on win7 64bit? Thanks for the info I'll check this out for sure, even though I think the search bar in the control panel is easy as hell to use though.

    From a microsoft employee/blogger
    Apparently people decided to call this “God Mode” because to enable this “trick” you make a folder called GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} and double-click on it. Now you can see… the control panel. With a slightly different view than you normally see it in.

    So first off, why is this completely silly? Well, the text ”GodMode” has nothing to do with making the trick work. You can call the folder “ILikePuppies.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}” and now you’ve discovered the magical “ILikePuppies” feature hidden in Windows.

    Well, not really. What you’ve actually discovered are two things:

    First, you’ve discovered a documented feature of the shell whereby filesystem folders can be easily made into namespace junctions, as described here on MSDN. Basically, any folder named <DisplayName>.<CLSID> will show up with just the <DisplayName> portion visible in Explorer, and navigating into the folder will take you to the namespace root defined by the <CLSID> portion of the name. This isn’t a user feature, it’s a developer feature.

    The second thing you’ve discovered is the “All Tasks” folder. This is a special shell folder which is used as the source of the “Control Panel” search results seen in the Start menu. This folder was not designed to be browsed to directly, as the normal Control Panel folder (accessible via Start -> Control Panel) contains all the same items but with a custom view designed to be easier to navigate. The “All Tasks” folder has no custom view, so you just see the standard Explorer list view and little else.

    The existence of this folder and its CLSID are implementation details and should not be relied upon by anybody for any purpose.

    God Mode? Hardly.
    Users of a X64 Vista already encountered problems when applying the' trick'. 'explorer.exe' would freeze and the process has to be stopped manually. Users are not advised to apply the function. ;)

    Thank you Rocco :001_smile:

    I just had to try this in my Vista 64-bit.

    Just to confirm it... It Will freeze.

    Anyways.. If you really have to try this yourself and windows freezez just do this:

    "Windows-button + R" Type "cmd"

    type " taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe "

    then type " cd c:\users\your-windows-username\desktop"
    Example: c:\users\Jowlee\desktop
    type: rmdir GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

    type explorer.exe to complete..

    ha thats awesome!

    Another thing which i find really handy in windows7 is using the search bar in the start menu. Its much better than ever before, i have never even gone into the "all programs" section of the start menu since i found out how good the search is. Just type in any program or document you have and it will appear.

    I do also find that handy too. Anyone having an issue with the windows 7 explorer consistently crashing? I get it all the time usually after my comp has been on for long periods of time.
