Default How to Download Windows 7 Media Codecs

How many times have you tried to play a video or audio file on your PC only to find out that you can’t because you don’t have the right codec? With Windows 7 you will have the same issue as previous OS unless you will be able to find all the correct codecs scattered on the Internet and install them on your operating system. Wouldn’t be nice to have everything in one place and download all the Windows 7 Media (audio and video) codecs all at once? WinSevenCodecs is a free utility containing a complete set of audio and video codecs for your Windows 7. The following filetypes are enabled and SUPPORTED by the installation of the Windows 7 Codecs; amr | mpc | ofr | divx | mka | ape | flac | evo | flv | m4b | mkv | ogg | ogv | ogm | rmvb | xvid.

    Also:
CCCP - my personal favourite codec pack - supports Windows 7.
K-Lite - a codec pack i really hate, but is very popular - supports Windows 7.
VLC player (build in codecs) - the best player to have at least as an alternative - supports Windows 7.

What's so great about WinSevenCodecs? To be frank - it sounds more like a virus .. :001_smile:

I haven't found any need for codec packs. Just use ffdshow (ffdshow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) which decodes almost everything you'll ever need. You can also try Media Player Classic (Media Player Classic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) or VLC Player as recommended above.

I disagree. This is your personal taste, so it's ok for you - but it's not that great of an advice. Ffdshow doesn't play a lot of the things i've watched over the years and it's not really newb friendly. CCCP already includes ffdshow and MPC and is very easy to install so - in my opinion - it's far better for inexperienced users.

VLC uses the ffdshow codecs so IMHO VLC is better than a standalone ffdshow decoder..

There are players, that includes many codecs and you don't need to search them yourself. For example, The KMPlayer - it's one of the greatest players in the world. It's fast, beautiful and know almost all formats and their codecs. I recommend you to use it!
