So you have automatic updates enabled within Windows XP and you just received the most annoying pop-up EVER! saying the PC wants to reboot in 5 minutes and when you click remind later, it keeps annoying you again and again as half the time you are busy and cant reboot.
here are the simple steps to get rid of this message:
1. Go start, run and type in gpedit.msc and hit enter.
2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Template > Windows Components > Windows Update.
3. Right click on "No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations"> properties. Enable it.
4. Right click on "Reprompt for restart with scheduled installations" > properties. Enable it. Enter 1440 in the restart bix (this is 24 hours in minutes, the maximum it can be set to).
5. Exit the Group Policy editor and reboot.
From now on you will only get reminded once, to either restart now or later. Once you click later it wont remind for 24 hours, which in the mean time you will probably have turned you pc off anyway.
