I did it more than 1 year ago, didn't see anyone post anything similar here before, so I decided to post it here. The photos were take from my iphone, don't complain about the quality :P
First of all, start with my hardware build:
CPU: Q6600
Memory: kingston 2X 1gb 800
Motherboard: asus p5k-e wifi/ap
VGA: GB 8800GT turbo force 512 mb
HDD: seagate 750 gb sata
Case: antec SONATA III
OS: Leopard 10.5.2 (kalyway version)
Please note that the hardware compatibility is very important to successfully install Mac OS on PC hardware. This is not the VM method that you've might seen before, it is a complete standalone OS on your HDD. To check your hardware compatibility, go here:
Main Page - OSx86
Step 1: Install windows XP, yes, i still use xp and i love it, will switch to win 7 when it is released. I believe I dont need to tell you how to install XP.
Step 2: Once your xp is up and running, start diskpart, click on start --> run --> type in <diskpark> --> hit the Enter key, you will see the popup window.
Step 3: Type in the following (there are alway debates on this part on hackintosh related forms, there are significant amount of people believe this part can be omitted, personally, doing this wont kill you and saves you some trouble if it doesnt work when you omitting this step):
Step 4: Restart your machine, put the DVD in your DVD-rom, once it loads, press F8, then type in -V and Enter (-v means to load it with unmodified vanilla kernel )Code:select disk0 list partition create partition primary id=af list partition select partition <number>(number is the partition that you want to install your mac os) active
Depends on your hardware, it could take 2-5 mins to load everything. Once it has done, you will see the language selection screen of Mac OS X.
Step 5: for the purpose of this tutorial, select English and continue
Step 6: Once you reach the welcome screen, do NOT hit continue, instead, look at the top part, click on utilities --> disk utilities, then Erase then Format the partition which you want to install mac os to <Mac OS Extended (Journaled)>, give it a name, NOTE, NO SPACE IN NAME ALLOWED
Step 7: Install Mac OS following the prompt, you cannot go wrong. You should see something similar once it has completed.
UP till now, you have two separated OS on your HDD, lets handle the dual boot.
Step 8:
Find any live linux CD with gnome partition editor (Gparted), put in to your dvd-rom and reboot from dvd.
once it finishes loading, open gnome partition editor, choose the windows partition, goto edit flag, then Tick the Boot flag, remove live CD and restart your machine
Step 9:
Go to wiki, search for chain0, consider it is the boot seq for mac. download it and put it in your c drive.
Then find you boot.ini file in your C drive. Make sure you select show hidden files and untick "Hide protected operating system files" in folder options.
Open boot.ini with notepad, add the following line at the very end:
Code:C:\chain0="Mac OS X86"
Step 10: congratulations, now you should be able to dual boot XP and Leopard. Enjoy
