It's really open, because at each time I try to signup I have an error; signup failed limit of user reached.

Just to let everyone know, the current userlimit has been set to 50,000 and there are currently just over 11,000 free spaces available for signup at the time of writing this message. Tell your friends to come on over and signup and enjoy the site

Still open and about 10k slots open. This is only about the 4th time in 6 years signups have opened. Rare opportunity indeed. Go do it peeps!
AFAIR the signups were always open, but user limit was reached most of the time. You had to keep refreshing and wait for some accounts to be pruned in order to make some space for you.
Just signed up. The speeds for a lot of them are terrific.
