    A quick search on the forums didn't seem to turn up any similar posts but feel free to direct me to one if it exists.

    I have a file/folder structure for organising my music which, although being satisfactory, still has plenty of room for improvement. I'd like to hear how other people do it so I can get a few ideas. Currently mine is structured as follows:

    Everything is always in lowercase, makes it uniform. Always spaces, no underscores or dots. The music files only contain track number and name. Keeping anything else is redundant since the folder(s) they're under cover all the other details.

    All the music is in that giant folder tree. I have a separate playlists for each genre.

    1. Why everything in lowercase? What is the point?
    2. You better put year in the album first to make it sorted by date not by first letter.

    for instance i am using cli a lot (*nix like os) and for me spaces in filenames/folder names are really annoying so i prefer put dots instead of spaces.

    Itunes organizes my music for me.

    I know it's not for everyone & if you're a Windows user is it's a resource hog, but honestly it's not a bad music app. Especially if you're like me and don't want to manually fuss with all that tagging that you're doing.

    For years, I resisted iTunes but finally gave in recently. It is a flawed program but somehow the best one available.

    My music collection is still out of control...

    I let iTunes do whatever it wants. I think I'd prefer to have a directory for each letter like shown, but its not worth having to organize manually when iTunes does a pretty good job automatically.

    I arrange my music collection this way.

    Genre/Band/<year> - Album/songs

    I put the year before the album name so it sorts out nicely.

    I organise mine in a similar fashion to the OP with separate folders for each letter. It makes it so much easier to navigate to a particular artist when you have a large library.

    I've just started putting the year at the beginning before the album title for new stuff, but it's gonna take me a while to go back through and change everything without breaking iTunes knowledge of where the tracks are stored.

    Artist --> Album
    That's it when it comes to the folders themselves.
    I edit my music with MP3tag and use foobar2000 for playing.
