    Default *** The Official Classical Music Thread ***

    I was going to just post in this thread, but reading through it, it isn't really much of a thread about sharing music.

    Now, this thread will probably not be nearly as big as any others, because not as many people like this kind of music, but that's OK! :001_smile:

    ~~~
    I used to hate it -- now it's my favorite genre. It is actually one of the most varied "genres", because there are really numerous categories within the umbrella of "classical music". So just because you've heard some pieces you don't like, and think that much of it is similar to those pieces -- nothing could be further from the truth. Different pieces can touch you in so many different ways, some ways you might not even realize right away. I read this story of this man who was at a chamber music performance, and everything was good, and then he started breaking down and crying. For some reason, the music powerfully stimulated memories of his time in WWII. And it wasn't because he had heard the music before -- he hadn't.
    Different classical pieces can be romantic, inspiring, uplifting, saddening, intellectual, subtle, powerful, soft, and more
    Classical music is amazing, I personally play the Violin so I get to play a lot of it.
    A few months ago I had to play Hungarian Dance #5 for a recital.
    Some people think it is easy when I show them the sheet music, but they are wrong it is such a fun and hard piece to play when played right.
    I love that piece -- depending on who is playing it, it can be so passionate. And it's more subtle than a lot of popular music, which makes it even more so.
    I definitely prefer an orchestra to a solo for that piece, though.
    Default Some of my favourite Chopin pieces
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_e9WGmZf7k&feature=channel]Chopin Military Polonaise Opus 40 No. 1 in A Major[/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Elox0npFTGI]Rubinstein fantasie impromptu op 66[/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyFyAqLtHq8]Classical - Chopin - Funeral March[/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZUw78FXpG4&feature=related]Frederic Chopin - Nocturne In E Flat Major, Op.9 No.2[/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_tRkATZwdk]Idil Biret plays Chopin Nocturne in B flat minor Op. 9 No.1[/ame]
    I really like Idil Biret's and Yundi Li's interpretations of his work. If only I found a tracker that had a good selection of classical music.
    May I suggest perhaps the best composer from my own country, Norway? Edward Grieg has some wonderful pieces, I'm sure you've heard some of them. He's very underrated, but here are something that you can listen to:
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s-Kz8S4dYw]In the Hall of the Mountain King[/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii2Adi2iFRM&feature=related]Edvard Grieg's Solveig's Song[/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUKRBeG-sGQ&feature=related]Morning Mood[/ame]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_MQ7KljP0o]March of the Dwarfs[/ame]
    I suppose you can call Grieg a romantic composer.
    I hope I've been of some inspiration here
    Regards
    What.cd has a massive amount of classical. You can get in pretty easily as long as you study up on audio and pass their interview.
    However, it's a lot of work to seed on there, especially if you don't have a seedbox.
    Demonoid has quite a bit of stuff, too, although not nearly as much.
