Vinyls are overhyped now adays. It seems to just be the end all to the "I'm a better DJ than you" contest.

Anyways, I spin as Cyph3r Punk, and just starting to get traction for spinning. I got picked up by a management company that is also going to pay for some time for me to kick it with an engineer to crack out some tracks that I have in my head.

    I personally use this setup:
    Laptop
    Serato SL-1
    2x SL-1200MK2
    Berhinger DDM4000 Mixer
    Stanton 890E Carts
Allen & Heath Xone XD:53 Headphones
M-Audio Fast Track PRO (for MIDI Mapping my Berhinger mixer)

I spin mostly breaks and house, but I'm branching off in to Freeform/Trancecore and Jungle.

As for advice on the right equipment, I just have to say this: You get what you pay for. Buy some cheap toy, you get stuck with a cheap toy that limits you. Pay for a good rig, and it will treat you right. I suggest going to a Guitar Center or Sam Ash and getting a feel for all the controllers out there - What it comes down to is personal preference... Unless you hit the big leagues - Then its only Technic SL-1200M5G, Pioneer CDJ 1000MK3 (2000s pretty soon), and a Pioneer DJM800. Most of the club and rave DJs around here use Serato as their program of choice - I rarely see Traktor or (god help me) Torq/VDJ.

And moving right on to music: Go check out ž„и†иалŒн‹й сай‚ сбо€ников под ма€кой <<Collection>> - “лавная с‚€ани†а - They have great track listings and music packed up all in one, usually on some free download site (with 40KBps transfer speeds!) - Or just go find a pack with tracks you like and torrent it.

Now, for the hard to find stuff, I use http://www.seekanddownload.com.au - Basically just a Zippyshare/4Share/Mediafire search engine, but it helps out alot. If not, get on Soulseek.

EDIT: Wow, just typing in that first link produced that? Damn. Atleast the link still works.

nice sharing, how do you find your headphone goes? is it good? I'm planning to get a new headphone, was wondering how the Allen & Heath Xone XD:53 do. never got a chance to test it though,
thanks for the site for the zippyshare and mediafire search, i do search a lot of music that hardly find on usual music sites. cheers~ =)

    Hello,
i'm dj producer (electro) and i love my setup (sure it's not cheap but...):
    Laptop (MB pro for sure)
Xone 4D (mixer with MIDI controls certif. for Traktor)
    2 SL MK2
Native Instruments TRAKTOR with 2 vinyls TimeCode (sorry i hate the CD's!)
Ableton Live 8 (for my remix's it the MUST!)
Yamaha RS7000 (hardware: sort of super groovebox) for easy programming my drums on a "fly"
Headphones Sony MDR 7506 (cool stuff for studio and djing)
    cheers

    Hi !

Introduce yourself - give us a little of your music background/favorite genre/experience as a DJ
Im not a professional DJ , but i have some friend who are...and them 4/5 years ago im djing too for hobby.
My favourite genre is eletronic music. Varies on house, prog house and tech house to others vertents like progressive trance and psychedelic trance.

I have a little knowledge too on produce some tracks.

What software/hardware do you use? What advice can you give on getting the right equipment?
Im using 2 or 3 setups..
    Depends on production or playing

    1. 2 Pionner CDJ 200 / Mixer "low-cost" Behringer

    2. Laptop + M-Audio Torq Xponent

    3. Laptop/Desktop + M-Audio Ozone + Uc-33

    And i have a Sennheiser 202

Using Ableton Live / Logic / Torq

what kind of a post would this be without a little discussion on where you get your music? What trackers are you a part of and which trackers are your bread and butter for your mix songs?

Waffles.fm , PAT, Audionews.ru, Psyreactor (and others DDL communities), TrT and sometimes using Ed2k (emule).
    Thnx for Rellik and Forbidden
    Two good souls !

Been djing since January of 2008, I spin drum 'n bass. Got into it after being a raver for a while and wanting to take up the art. I use a stantom cm.205 onepiece. It's cheap but it gets the job done for practice :) if you want to get into djing, go to a store to try it out and see if you like it or if your mate has equipment try it out. once you know you want to take it up, depending on your budget buy equipment. i'd recommend staying away from gemini equipment.

I'm a vinyl DJ, purely because that was the only option available when I started (1999).

I started as a hip hop DJ and carried on into D+B and I'm now doing eclectic cut and paste/scratch sets.

I'm now completely reliant on a laptop system, namely 'serato scratch live', as I can re-edit and download tracks and use them with a vinyl set up. Although I'm a vinyl fan, I would say it's much easier to beat-match using cd decks, particularly for the genre you're interested in.

Although you can mix purely on the laptop, it's important to learn how to mix manually and all the different laptop systems can be controlled via cd decks.
