Vinyls are overhyped now adays. It seems to just be the end all to the "I'm a better DJ than you" contest.
Anyways, I spin as Cyph3r Punk, and just starting to get traction for spinning. I got picked up by a management company that is also going to pay for some time for me to kick it with an engineer to crack out some tracks that I have in my head.
I personally use this setup:
Laptop
Serato SL-1
2x SL-1200MK2
Berhinger DDM4000 Mixer
Stanton 890E Carts
Allen & Heath Xone XD:53 Headphones
M-Audio Fast Track PRO (for MIDI Mapping my Berhinger mixer)
I spin mostly breaks and house, but I'm branching off in to Freeform/Trancecore and Jungle.
As for advice on the right equipment, I just have to say this: You get what you pay for. Buy some cheap toy, you get stuck with a cheap toy that limits you. Pay for a good rig, and it will treat you right. I suggest going to a Guitar Center or Sam Ash and getting a feel for all the controllers out there - What it comes down to is personal preference... Unless you hit the big leagues - Then its only Technic SL-1200M5G, Pioneer CDJ 1000MK3 (2000s pretty soon), and a Pioneer DJM800. Most of the club and rave DJs around here use Serato as their program of choice - I rarely see Traktor or (god help me) Torq/VDJ.
And moving right on to music: Go check out ž„и†иалŒн‹й сай‚ сбо€ников под ма€кой <<Collection>> - “лавная с‚€ани†а - They have great track listings and music packed up all in one, usually on some free download site (with 40KBps transfer speeds!) - Or just go find a pack with tracks you like and torrent it.
Now, for the hard to find stuff, I use http://www.seekanddownload.com.au - Basically just a Zippyshare/4Share/Mediafire search engine, but it helps out alot. If not, get on Soulseek.
EDIT: Wow, just typing in that first link produced that? Damn. Atleast the link still works.
