Thread: What Musical Genre Do You Loathe...AND WHY?!

There alot of music out there and not all of it can be as great as what I listen to or what the douchebags at Pitchfork listen to....but I'm getting ahead of myself because Pitchfork listens to shit and they couldn't write themselves out of a 'Pitchfork writing contest bag' - if that even existed.

Entire genres and careers have been made on some of the most appalling garbage out there...and really I listen to some god awful stuff. But I know it's horrible...theres this band The Lamps, I really love them and they're great but it sounds like someone recorded it next to a space shuttle laugh by farting through a megaphone into one of those old school answering machines. Like the one in that Seinfeld episode that still uses tapes...just horrible. And I know it sucks but I don't pass it off as being good. And alot of people do, they think something is the greatest thing since freebasing coke. And just like that it's not...it just ends up sucking your money on shitty albums that give you a headache and you end up talking with retarded people into the late hours like you do on a coke binge.

So anyway, what genres do you just loathe...and I know it's easy to just yell shit out like you're on turrets syndrome...let's be a little bit intellectual here and at least gimmie some reason.

Here are some examples:

Metal music...I know people are going to hate me for this but hear me out. I do think their guitar players are technically great, I play guitar and it takes me like 10 seconds to go from an E chord to an A minor. But these guys somehow play like a billion notes on that time and manage to go up and down the neck faster than your mom does on some hobo in the backseat of car behind dennys when she wants to buy more Boones. It's amazing...but it seems so wasted. The solos all end up being the same and most times it sounds like shit over that god damn power chord. And the solo doesn't need to be that fucking long. Production values in Metal also suck....it all sounds like there's some Pro Tools filter thrown on to crush it all down and not really give it any life. Oh and another thing...adding some strings to be like "look at us we're like classical and shit" - that doesn't work...you're not George Martin so go concentrate on your lead singer who nobody can fucking understand a bit more and we can maybe have something that normal people listen to.

Alternative: the only thing that it's alternative to is using the nine brain cells you have left and actually learning to describe music. And saying "It's like Sonic Youth meets The Melvins" doesn't work because one of those bands sucks...

Techno: They sound good in movie promos and when I do a bunch of X...but really there's not many things that don't feel good on X. So don't fall for it...



And if anyone wants to make me laugh...here are the genres that I love, rip into them!
Punk, The Blues, R&B (specifically like that Phil Specter Wall of Sound BS), Garage Rock...they're all easy.

Nu-metal is the worst, bands like ICP, KoRn, Slipknot, and that kind of shit. If you like it you have to be mentally retarded. I don't care if you're offended by me saying ICP sucks ****, fuck you.

Happy Hardcore techno makes me want to punch children. It's like listening to children on speed. It all sounds pretty much the same; super fast, bouncy, with some high pitched chick trying to 'sing'. I know people liek Happy Hardcore because it's great rave music. But... listen to it when you're not on ecstasy sometime. It's crap.

I think Indie is up there on my list of do not want. It's not that bad, but I just can't seem to like it that much. Some songs are good, but the bad songs over-rule the few good ones. Yeah, I understand more of the obscure but popular indie bands are influenced by hallucinogenic drugs or just drugs in general.. but it still sounds bad.

I'm not keen on metal myself but metal-heads at festivals are some of the coolest people I've met so I can put up with it. I do like some metal but as a genre it doesn't really appeal to me.

I don't like indie when defined as The Kooks, The View etc. but I do like indie in the same vein as the Mountain Goats or of Montreal or whatever if you get me. I don't like the whole image associated with the former and it just kinda leaves me cold but I guess it's maybe because I can't identify with a lot of the lyrics like I could when I was younger.

Can't say there's anything I truly hate, some dance music does my nut but it all sounds good when you're on drugs and then when you're not it's hard to hate because it holds good memories. For me, anyway.

As a metal-head, I do have to admit that there are a lot of metal bands that are not really that creative and to some extent meet that description, but certainly not all. It did bring me a smile to see that the thread stater was banned :)

Back on topic, for me country is the only music genre I cannot stand, and possibly certain pop acts that lack talent (or any genre where the music is stale/repeated/non-original).

As a non-religious person, most religious music I could do without too.

I don't really care for nu-metal, but I'd take it anyday over country.

I've never heard the happy Hardcore techno mentioned above, but it sounds like I'd probably have to add that to my hate list too.

I am assuming you are from Europe, cause I'm not sure if you could say that in the states. I mean I have a blast at concerts, but I suspect the scene here is quite a bit different.

Pop-country. I like bluegrass and woody gutherie type stuff, but loathe what is considered country music nowadays.

Country... because it all sounds the same and I grew up in TX so I have a special kind of hate for most rednecks that, of course, bleeds over to hating their music.

Pop... because it's made for 12-14 year olds. If you listen to it, and are older than 14, you should probably re-evaluate your life.

I've really been into rock before, but I find myself like a lot of different types of music these days. I'm really digging tehcno/dance music right now, but still rock is my favorite type and I think it will forever stay like that.
