I just read this article from the Sydeny Morning Herald:
(EU Proposes To Cut MP3 Players, iPod, to 80 Decibels)
The article talks about restricting the maximum output of your personal audio players (Phone iPod ETC.) as many people are suffering from hearing issues because of use of these devices at dangerously high levels. I remember that there was a similar case one before, but i could easily be wrong and stand corrected.

I can and do comprehend how this legislation is important as we don't want the whole 'iPod Generation' being deaf at the age of 25 because irresponsible use of these great devices. But i do believe that there are better ways of handling this ever growing situation, education, like the type used for smoking or drink driving maybe. Though this would be more costly for the government, which would make it a less attractive prospect for them, no doubt.

I also did a few searches on the topic and found endless sites explaining how to remove or 'Jailbreak' your iPod to restore the volume to previous maximums. Surley this is proof enough that the legislation will be ineffective in providing protection for people who expose them self to dangerously high sound waves through personal audio devices.

In saying all this, there are situations where you have to turn up your music in order to hear it, on the school bus or public transport, and this new legislation may render these devices useless in these situations.

I was wondering if anyone has had hearing problems due to the of these devices?
Also peoples opinion on this decision, although it does not affect me because Australia is not part of the European Union, i do wonder if other countries will follow suit.
