Default DreamTheater-Black Clouds And Silver New Album 2009

Progressive metal veterans DREAM THEATER have announced BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS as the title of their tenth studio album. The band commenced work on the album - their second for Roadrunner Records, following up 2007's Systematic Chaos - in October of last year.

Roadrunner will release the record on June 23. In addition to the standard version CD, the album will also be available on vinyl LP, as well as a 3-disc Special Edition CD that will include the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs, the titles of which will be revealed at a later date.

    2. A Rite of Passage

I do. I used to love them. However, in case of this album, oh well.. I hoped so much it's gonna be a great come back to the good old times, but I consider it their worst CD so far (or the worst right after the first one). It's just poor - you've heard it all like 100x times already. They say Falling Into Infinity is the worst, but personally - I think it's cool 'cause at least it has its unique sound and spontaneity (it was the only one born from jam sessions) and you can love it or hate it - just like every another it has that something that made it sound new and fresh. But since the heaviest and (IMO) thus wonderful ToT it was only getting worse.. While Octavarium got better each time you listened to it due to its concept, Systematic Chaos had just few good moments to remember.. and now this.. actually not worth listening to at all. It's just boring.

Some say it's their Roadrunner records contract that expect an album within each 2 years or something. Such a rush is never good for great artists that have their own pace (2 years might be a lot, but not when you're also touring, have side-projects, personal life, etc.). They also say it's pretty common for most Roadrunner artists. I guess that might be the reason. Remember that SFaM is what they recorded right after the first LTE, so Rudess is not the problem. Another proof for that is the newest Moore's O.S.I. (Blood) that also failed everyone's expectations after previous two masterpieces. He had 4 years and still fucked it up (besides 2-3 songs maybe).

Hopefully new Frameshift and Transatlantic are soon to be released, so there's still hope in prog-rock/metal.

I liked A Change Of Seasons best, one of the first Dream Theater songs I heard. I liked it so much, I got a 7-string guitar just to learn that song. I had no idea they released a new album, thanks for the heads up, will give it a listen =)
