Default Rate the classical piece above you

No doubt many of you love classical music. So let's share some of the pieces we love :)

To keep things fun and entertaining, I thought we might as well add the well-known rating system. Just give the piece above you a score from 0 to 10, and add a new piece yourself. It has to be classical music.

I'll start off with one of my favorites, Brahms symphony no.4. Performance by the Bayerische Staatsorchester. Conductor: the legendary Carlos Kleiber.

A great piece by a great pianist and composer, 8/10

Here's another piece by Franz Liszt, La Campanella, played by Evgeny Kissin

That's great, I don't know much about Liszt, but I liked it! 7/10 for me.

This is something I found recently, and it just blew my mind. It's a performance of Mahler 2nd Symphony, by the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, with Gustavo Dudamel conducting. It may not be perfect technically (I mean, for me it's hard to beat the Bernstein performances, or the absolutely mindblowing version done by Stokowski in 1963) but it has an enormous amount of raw emotion, from the conductor, the orchestra, and even the public, as you can see by the end. When the last notes where played, I was in tears, like many of the orchestra, and even Dudamel. It is really an amazing performance... I hope you guys enjoy it like I did.

Great performance, 9/10 I enjoyed it.

Here's Bach's concerto for violin and oboe, played by violinist Kyung Wha Chung and undoubtedly the best oboist of all times and one of my idols: Heinz Holliger
All later performances pale in comparison to this legendary interpretation. The second movement is simply stunning. The first and third movements are also on youtube and highly recommended.

That's good, but too fast and almost lifeless, in my humble opinion. I would give it a 6. I know this is a matter of personal taste as opinion, but for me you can't beat Wilhelm Kempf interpretation...

For my nomination, here's the hauntingly beautiful Shostakovich's Violin Concerto no. 1, with the great (a giant actually ) David Oistrakh as the soloist. It's absolutely amazing, if you can please watch all the parts....

    Cheers!

Yes I'm a Shostakovich fan, so that's a 9.5/10 from me.. It's a stellar performance by one of the greatest violinists, I just prefer the recording by Vengerov/Rostropovich. I think my favorite movement of this concerto is the fourth --> I just love it :)

One of my favorite pieces of Shostakovich is the violin sonata op.134
The quality of the recording isn't that great, but the rendering is superb.

10/10 What can I say, this is really one of the best cello concertos and it's played by the great Rostropovich. A treat!

Here's one of my all-time favorite violin concertos, written by Bruch, performed by Maxim Vengerov. This is only the first part - so don't forget to listen to the other two parts as well :)
