Default Give unto me chilleth musics.

    Hello everyone,
I'm addicted to music and I seek some great chill out music. Your suggestions can be in any genre but please. Death metal most of the time isn't chill so don't post any old track I actually want something to relax/chill to.
For your troubles you will get some from me in return =D

Grateful Dead is very relaxed, and mellow. There's also Sublime, Cake, Neil Young to name a few.

For me Dead Can Dance is both relaxing and mood enhancing, especially their earlier album "Within the Realm of a Dying Sun" - here is a sample song: Dead Can Dance - In The Wake Of Adversity - YouTube. I also enjoy, having Delirium on in the background especially their album "Poem" - here is a sample song from that particular album: Delerium & Leigh Nash - Innocente - YouTube. Other examples are Massive Attack and Portishead.

This is relevant to my interests.

Unfortunately due to who your talking to (people who have the ability to get A LOT of music ;) ) and the vagueness of "chill out" I'm not enitrely sure what your looking for. To me, personally, "chill out" music takes a variety of shapes, from a more energetic type, all the way to intramental and to electronic and everything inbetween! All depends on how or why im chilling out and what type of music compliments the type of mood im trying to add!

You can have a more energetic chill out like something from say...

Slightly Stoopids' Sweet Honey - Sweet Honey - YouTube
    Sublime's What I Got - Sublime - What I Got - YouTube

    To something like...

Sigur Ros' Untitled #3 - Sigur Ros "Untitled 3" - YouTube
Explosions in the Sky's Human Qualities - Explosions in the Sky - Human Qualities - YouTube

or on the electronic side...(im not a huge electronic fan but im quickly liking it more!)

    Bonobo's Kong - Bonobo - Kong - YouTube
Quantic's Wider than the Sky - Quantic - Wider than the Sky - YouTube

    OR..........

The Book's Smells like Content - the books - smells like content - YouTube
Fleet Fox's White Winter Hymnal - fleet foxes - white winter hymnal - YouTube
Animal Collective's Grass - Animal Collective "Grass" Fatcat Records - YouTube <- Okay not that chill but i really like that song. The entire 'Feels' album is pretty chill though.
Bon Iver's Calgary - Bon Iver - Calgary - YouTube
Damien Rice's The Blowers Daughter - Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter (Without Film Clips) - YouTube
City and Colour's Sleeping Sickness - Sleeping Sickness - City and Colour with Gordon Downie - YouTube

AHHHHHHHHh I could go on forever! And I happily will if anyone gives me some more direction. Frankly this should be the most popular thread in the music section as EVERYONE has chill out music, an opinion on what chill out music is to them, and EVERYONE needs more of it. I hope this thread picks up speed so I can grab a few artists or even just songs I was unaware of previously. Like I said, you can never have enough chill out music.

"Josh how did you forget jazz!" - A fantastic question hell if i know....

Miles Davis' So What - So What by.Miles Davis - YouTube <- old but GREAT
Hiromi's The Tom and Jerry Show - Hiromi Uehara - The Tom and Jerry Show - YouTube <- New but great! I picked a fun tune but dont let it fool you, Hiromi is a fantastic musician, just watch those hands - wow.

YES!!! Finally some replies! I'm going to spend the day listening to all your lovely suggestions. Getting back to you Josh on a point you made before, I totally get that 'chill out' is such an ambiguous term but that's exactly why I left it like that. I didn't want to limit peoples suggestions by defining this by genre or style. I'm just looking for music that relaxes people, or takes them to another place. It's up to everyone else to decide what that means for them. I do hope more people comment on the thread cause already I can tell those suggestions are going to be great. I will post a massive list up myself soon =D

Good to hear! A very good point; I would hate to limit the type of chill tunes people were to post as you can see I enjoy a wide variety! I'll look forward to your suggestions! Heres to hoping this thread gains serious momentum!

Right it's about time I contributed. With out further ado I present you one of my many chill lists.
Chill list volume 1. Some tracks may not seem like the 'chill type' but they certainly calm and relax me so that counts Imo. Hope some one enjoys this because those hyper links take a lot of time to get right haha.

Josh and anyone else, I highly encourage you to check out the electronic suggestions I posted. They aren't what you expect for electronic music, it isn't techno and a lot of it is certainly chill indeed.

Excellent taste Malevich and Josh. Mal, I have just started getting into The Dead Can Dance. I find their musical to be extremely cathartic and powerful. It's very gripping stuff.

I just realized this whole album is up on youtube as a continuous track.

    Solar Fields - Altered-Second Movements [ Album] - YouTube

Obviously you should go get the album over youtube, but its a start. This has to be one of the best mastered, most mesmerizing, and relaxed electronic music albums I know of.

The album "Within and Without" by Washed Out,
"936" by Peaking Lights <-- Very acid inspired, might be a bit too trippy, don't know.
Any Belle and Sebastian album, namely my favourite, "The Boy With The Arab Strap"
    "Halcyon Digest" by Deerhunter
"Person Pitch" by Panda Bear... flipping phenomenal, not sure whether it chills everyone out though.
"I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" by Bright Eyes.. Oberst's lyrics at their finest, some very sad stuff here, albeit wonderful.
Anything by Elliot Smith, very sad though.
"Flaws" by Bombay Bicycle Club... better than their latest in my opinion.
    "Cults" by Cults
    "Spooks" by The Beautiful Girls

Quite a range of different styles there. I'm an album person, I think they are works of art that display the artist's intentions much more fully than a single track, in their purest form. I have craploads more, just PM me :)
