    Default Björk - Biophilia

Being a Björk fan for the past 20 years (since Björk was a member of the Sugarcubes), I was excited to see "Biophilia" being leaked (at least a preliminary version).

I had already heard "Crystalline", "Cosmogony", "Virus" and "Moon", and the Manchester live versions of most of the songs off "Biophillia", but they kind of underwhelmed me and I expected to dislike "Biophilia" since I found the songs a bit repetitive and unimaginary. However, when I listened to this leak in headphones, I really enjoyed Björk's voice layerings, and was especially inspired by "Sacrifice" which I found very haunting and mysterious; it inspired me.

Has anyone else heard the leak of "Biophilia"? if so, what are your impressions?

Ahhh A Bjork fan!!! I love Bjork! First song I really got into from her was HyperBallad- still a favorite to this day! I have heard a lot of the tracks from the album and I really think it speaks volumes. I think in many ways the album is groundbreaking, the way she built instruments for the album and the live aspect are incredible. Also I deeply admire the content of the tracks, the way she sings about concepts like the virus and how it relates to relationships and love. I T ' S D E E P

Thanks for your reply Insidious9! I first heard about Björk when she was in the Sugarcubes, but really got into her when she released "Post" and when I first heard her song "Army of Me", I just couldn't stop humming that song; and it was so much darker than what was spinning on the radio at that time.

Personally I'm really fond of the vocal layers on Biophilia, and it seems that I can't get the melodies of "Sacrifice" and "Mutual Core" out of my head. By the way, "Biophilia" reminds me of a cross between her former albums "Vespertine" and "Medulla".

As far as I have understood, the leak of "Biophilia" is not the finished version. Björk is still working on the album, and supposedly "Biophilia" will be more complete than the leak. I'm really looking forward to the end result .

I wonder if Bjork was unhappy about the leak? It can be double edged sword, on one hand it promotes listening of the album and increases hype on the other hand she could lose a few purchases with people being content with the leak version. It's funny because I always found Bjork an acquired taste, and initially didn't like her although I wanted to. After a while of broadening my musical horizons I finally decided to give her another go and now I'm in love with her music =D

I also wonder a little bit about the leak. It might also have been leaked on purpose to test the audience's reaction on it? In case it wasn't satisfactorily it's just for Björk to state that she's still working on it. I believe the main criticism of "Biophilia" was that it was too sparse.

I agree about Björk being an acquired taste. Although if you think she's an acquired taste, then you should definitely take a listen to her old group Kukl. Very interesting sound to say the least, and much harder to get into than Björk - but I'm really fond of the two albums they released ("The Eye" and "Holiday's in Europe").
