Default Where to find inspiration to make music?

    Hi,
I'm a composer, becoming a really good one (IMO) and, for now, I haven't been making money from it. I have composed music for different reasons:
    1. For myself, because there are very few music styles that I like and finding such music is difficult, and I just love my own music.
    2. Because of the process itself, I enjoy making music.
    3. I let my friends listen to my music sometimes and they like it too, I like the nice feedback I get for it at it makes me continue making new compositions.
    4. Attending in contests. This is what I'm looking for right now too, but I'm bad at using google and I only find results where there is no prize or the last date of participation has gone by some months or even years ago.
    5. Inspiration. It just comes from nowhere, maybe from the smallest possible things, a tune just comes to your mind and you just have to complete it, etc.
    6. From the joy of testing out new virtual instruments, you find completely different melodies by playing an erhu than what you find when you play a piano for instance.

Lately, I've had trouble to find any source of inspiration. I don't have to make money from it in order to produce some good stuff, I like my own music and I like composing so it shouldn't be an issue. But, it's been like three months since I composed anything. I start something, maybe I even find a short tune, but then, almost instantly, I lose interest and it just won't work.
Apart from the couple of ideas I've listed here, I've been wondering could it be possible to find an open source project/game that could do with a soundtrack by a starting composer / promising talent (me), and if it became popular, I might get some fame/recognition for what I've accomplished. I bet, being part of such a project could give me inspiration for months to come. But I haven't had any luck finding such projects.

I'm also looking for places where I could share my music, places where my compositions actually get heard. I've been at some music communities, but my works haven't been listened to even once by anyone other than myself. Other people's songs just seem to get commented, receive ratings and get favorited, but not mine.

If you can help me, finding competitions to attend or projects to be part of, I would highly appreciate it.
Also, if you have any idea how I could get my inspiration back (or totally new sources of inspiration), please tell, please post anything you can think that might be of use.
I don't make any promises, but you do remember what a useful post just might get. It can't be an automatic reward, sorry, because of our rules, you earn it if you do, sometimes you don't and that's all I can say.

Throw out your ideas and just maybe I'm back to business soon. Thanks in advance.

edit: in case it's of any use to you who make suggestions, I make music without vocals, but that doesn't necessarily limit my compositions to background music, even though I'm a fan of game and film soundtracks

edit: here are some demos made by me http://soundcloud.com/rythmost. And this is yet another example of a site where you can upload your music, but no one will listen even once to it except the uploader himself. So there's no sort of feedback or helpful comments to aid me in getting better and improving my works.

Search for God, the truth, your purpose hereand why you even have the desire to create music!

I'm afraid that's not very helpful, can you be more precise, please. Maybe I just missed your point?

i suggest you start by writing about something you really like or something you are waiting like MIKA's - Lollipop or Hardware Store by Weird Al Yankovic
or something you or a friend like to say like nice guys
soundcloud.com is a good plays to publish your songs and you can put them in genders so that people who are interested in your kind can find you easy

The greats were all damaged souls typically strung out on narcotics. You could start there.

the ultimate source of music is love
try to find inspiration from the things u like to do.
i would say the sheer happiness of creating new music out of thin air ought to be the greatest inspiration behind the task

All threads site wide may now be bumped every 24 hours so this is what I am going to do until I get my inspiration back or a project to work on.
