Default Recommend Anything (READ FIRST POST!)

first off, there are some limitations. i know this is the Movies & TV forum, but i'm only interested in movies. i've read the r5 release list for this year and figured there's a long hold before something interesting comes out. so i thought you guys could help me out to fill in the big emptiness.

    my "likes":
well, genre doesn't matter (almost). from romance to action to horror, it all depends on the movie/plot. here's my diverse taste, a list of my top movies in different genres:
    romance: Notting Hill, Definitely Maybe
    fighting: Never Back Down
    dancing: Billy Elliot, Step Up
foreing (non english): Don't Die Too Hard
teen: Road Trip, Accepted, Easy A, Kickass
comedy: Guess Who, Tropic Thunder, Borat, Galaxy Guest, Bulworth
    action: Die Hard
anime: How to Train Your Dragon
drama/thriller: Green Mile, Buried, The Hurt Locker
    sci-fi: District 9, Matrix, Jumper

    my "dislikes":
speaking genres/types, i don't like westerns and generally old movies (pre '90). i also HATE movies with magicians (like Harry Potthead or Lord of the earRings) and find teen girl movies to get me...pissed off. Just now remembered that vampire movies make me feel the same as teen girl movies. Lets be honest, emo vampires with puberty problems aren't really a straight mans taste.

*sidenotes. off-topic posts don't count to your post count so there's no point in spamming. but if you make good suggestions, i will always respect that (i know where the THANKS button is ). NO LINKS NEEDED, i can use youtube myself.

Have you seen Memento? It was a fantastic movie, quite different from others I've seen. Classifies like a drama I guess.

Letters From Iwo Jima - haven't seen it. watched the trailer and well, it's japanese. i don't mind foreign movies but it's hard to read, catch facial expressions and see the "bigger" picture at the same time. will add to the MAYBE list.

Catch Me If You Can - obviously seen it. it the kind of movie i only watch once (could be because of Leonardo). in the NO list it goes.

Memento - nice. drama with some psycho in the mix. only downside are the actors but the plot has/had potential. MAYBE (or WILL SEE) list. ;D

The Walking Dead is a comic/tv show, but 2 episodes are long enough to be a movie.

    to the top.

anyone know a movie that is like "Never Back Down"? never giving up, fighting for what you love and stuff...but nothing too childish like the "karate kid"

Althought i know you said you don't like old movies i will suggest two that i think are brilliant:

    12 Angry Men
    Ikiru

They are all about the plot and characters interaction, first is from 1957 and last from 1952. I too used to dislike old movies, but i started to watch some classics and saw how they can produce crap today.
Usually IMDB top 250 has some jewels you won't find people talking about in this type of threads.

For a newer one, i would say Trainspotting.

12 Angry Men and Ikiru - the plot may be brilliant but the acting at the time and the background music put me off. sorry, i tried.

Trainspotting - naaa, not my taste. huge brittish influence.
