Thread: The Walking Dead

Watched the first couple of episodes of this show and think its pretty decent. Obviously well made and clearly violent, so gets a big thumbs up from yours truly. I then go and ruin it by reading on cracked.com 7 reasons why a zombie outbreak would fail (and quickly) now i've kind of lost belief in a zombie outbreak. less reading and more watching i think.

I looked at that article you mentioned on cracked. I guess some of it is valid based on some of the zombie assumptions. Versus your average mindless Romero zombie, then yes, little threat might be posed assuming government response was reasonable. However, I think any sort of large scale outbreak that went unnoticed by the CDC or whoever would result is mass chaos and potentially become overwhelming for local authorities and and if the government didn't mobilize the military swiftly enough or effectively enough...well...bad news!

Read World War Z by Max Brooks it's a very entertaining read based entirely on what would happen in the event of a Zombie outbreak and how it could easily escalate in places such as rural towns to major cities. Told from the perspective of a variety of "survivors" in short story format. It's a fun, quick read.

On the topic of the TV show though, I first saw previews for this show a month or two ago and have been patiently waiting for it to air since. I've got the first two episodes, but have yet to watch them as we are currently burning our way through the second season of Castle! I'm really looking forward to it and I'm glad to hear it's decent. There are so few quality installments in this genre that any good movies/tv shows that come out can only help things.

Am I the only one who thinks this tv show is overrated? I'm not saying it is bad, just a little overrated :S

It's a really nice zombie tv series. I enjoyed both episodes so far.

I enjoyed the two episodes that aired so far. The comic it's based on has built a ton of material for them to work with; I was lent the first trade paperback by a friend a few years ago, and since then there have been another 20+ trades published.

In any case, I just think it's great that there's a current television project catering to the zombie-apocalypse niche.

Duuude, I love this show beyond words. I'm a big zombie enthusiast/fanatic so I may be a little bit biased. There have been so many terrible zombie movies, games, stories, etc. that it's refreshing to finally have something of quality...especially considering it's a tv show. I am a big fan of the comics so when I found out a show was being built around it I was both excited and hesitant, but after watching the last two eps all my doubts are out the window.

Some people love vampires, and some people love werewolves...zombies have always been in my alley. The Walking Dead is welcomed and needed material in a genre that has been lacking for years. Major thumbs up!

The Walking Dead is really good.

The second episode was good, better than the first one. The happening is moving slowly, but nevertheless show is very good.
