    Default Are subtitles a dealbreaker for you?

    I was sitting down to watch a great Kieslowski movie the other day when a pal dropped by my place. She was surprised I was watching a movie with subtitles, she hates subtitles and though most normal people felt the same.

    Just curious if most people agree or not.

    I am a big fan of anime. That being said a great deal of those I have watched require me to have subtitles.

    I have now for the past year and a half gone from dubbed to subbed. I can understand that subtitles are not the way to go for some, however I am sure a lot of people prefer them as I do.

    In all honesty if you friend took the time to give them a shot she may find that the movie/anime is far more enjoyable hearing it the way it was meant to be heard. Besides it takes little to no effort in my opinion to get use to reading them while watching a movie.

    I like the option of having a subtitle cause there are some dialogues that I can't understand well. Cause I'm not a native English speaker and the way we speak English here in our country is different than the way people speak in US, UK, Australia, etc. So subtitle is a must.

    Well in normal movie I don't like to see subtitle other then the places where they have some extra foreign language...they just occupie little space at the bottom though I am a huge anime fan where subtitle is the first thing I want.

    so for

    Tv series===hell no for sub's
    movie=== OK OK if they have foreign language other then English
    anime===want them

    I absolutely love subtitles. I've got them on by default since I tend to buy and watch a lot of movies in languages that are foreign to me. Consequently, I rarely miss dialogue when I'm watching a movie.

    It's silly not to watch a movie just because it has subtitles, very limiting. But, it's an unfortunate reality that many Americans refuse to watch a movie that requires subtitles. Perhaps, the very low level of literacy in America is to blame, or perhaps people are too lazy to read, if one can be too lazy to read.

    Nope, I actually prefer subtitles, even if the language is English.

    I wish I would have had subs for Deadwood :001_tongue:.

    I really enjoy subtitles. It probably really began with anime. Before then I didn't really care much for them but I wasn't really annoyed by them. Once I started watching anime in other languages(mainly Japanese) I like subtitles even on regular English shows which I can understand easily. Subtitles basically ensure you don't miss or misunderstand a word.

    This pretty much sums it out for me. I'm not a native English speaker and sometimes it is easier for me to understand the plot if I see the subtitles. Doesn't happen with every movie though, mostly those where there's a lot of talk in them. I really hate movies with scenes where people are talking really low, almost whispering...I think the producers expect some people to be able to read lips. I suppose it not much trouble for native speakers but it is a bit of a pet peeve for me.

    I don't mind subtitles, since I'm use to them. When you are a fan of anime you have to like subtitles. Also, like a couple of members mentioned there are some movies that you need to turn the subtitles on, just because the dialogues are hard to understand (if English is not your native language, like me).
