    Default Anyone miss 24?

There seems to be a vacancy of action/political-intrigue on TV with the completion of 24. For those who do not know, 24 follows the exploits of government super-agent and all-around badass Jack Bauer in stopping terrorists that would otherwise bring America to its knees. It is told in real-time, with 24 episodes a season, each episode representing one hour of time.

I don't know about you guys, but I sure miss watching something this intense on TV, and as far-fetched as some of the threats to Jack and the country may be, it is always entertaining (except for season 6, that was definitely the weakest link).

Any 24 fans out there missing Jack on TV?

I had known for the past two seasons that Keifer Sutherland had felt that he wanted to end the show on a high note. So, I made the decision to wait until the show was officially done so I can do a full-day-long-viewing of the remaining seasons. I just can't watch the show and be forced to wait a whole week for the next. I've always enjoyed watching shows episode after episode, especially in the case of 24.

I haven't done it yet, but I'll catch up soon enough. I left off at Redemption, so now I have two seasons to go!

I absolutely miss 24 and Jack Bauer. It might be that the new series The Event can fill up some of the emptiness that 24 left behind. Have seen 2 episodes now and am waiting for the yhird. :o)

Just finished the last season of 24 the other day.

Oh sweet, I am going to check out what The Event is about and give it a shot.

The thing that made 24 so good is their layering of obstacles and how the political undercurrent of a particular season affects the ENTIRE outcome. Shows like The West Wing, from what I hear, have that particular level of intrigue (they'd have to, being 100% political and 0% action), while other shows are very action-oriented. Some of the best seasons of 24 really made one consider Jack's situation and the responses that he and many key political figures make, especially when no decision is favorable. How do you decide on the lesser of the evils, and how do you deal with the decisions you've made later on?

Ah I sure do miss Jack; I hope he makes it to the big screen for a proper farewell.

They should really bring that show back...I saw Jack in the movie 'mirrors' he did a good job in that.

It was indeed a high-impact thriller series. I think there will always be new works to eventually fill in, but it was definitely a highlight for many people who needed that jolt of adrenaline each week. :)

No, they dragged that show out for far too many seasons using the same formula.

Using the same formula, if it's a highly successful formula, isn't a bad thing at all. Would you rather watch a season of 24 where the "crisis" of the day is Jack getting lost at his local Ikea whilst scrambling around and asking Chloe what kind of desk Kim would like?

I do believe the formula of mixing high-suspense action with a good dosage of political intrigue is a good formula, something which I don't think they should alter too much. Many shows use the same formula through its entire run (basically all sitcoms), and just like any show in general, there are good ones and bad ones.
