    Default British TV comedies

    Hi all,

I'm in the US who has been bored with crappy American TV comedies so I started watching Mighty Boosh on the suggestion of a friend and have been hooked on scavenging new (to me) British comedies since. Here's some of my favorites... any others you would suggest for me? What are your favs?

Excluding Monty Python (they're funny, just... everyone knows about Monty Python)

    No particular order:
    Mighty Boosh
    Peep Show
    That Mitchell and Web Look
    Spaced
    Father Ted
    Snuff Box
    Little Britain

For the record not all American comedy sucks... here's a few that are good (naturally, what I like is good, what I don't... sucks  )

    Eastbound and Down
    Party Down
    Arrested Development

    What?!

I cant believe you missed the IT Crowd!

I admit its not as appealing to most as the 'Big Bang Theory' but still some really funny scenes. Moss is just great!

Black Books, Black Adder, League of Gentlemen, Psychoville, Red Dwarf, Spaced and Fawlty Towers are all very funny. Enjoy!

Oh yeah I forgot about Black Books, that was a funny show. Kind of had the same sort of vibe as Ab Fab.

One thing I love about British comedies is they're not afraid to make light of booze and drugs. Not condoning boozing and drugging (okay, maybe in moderation)... it's just that they're not afraid of it like the comedy shows here.

Not so afraid of using sex in jokes either...

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah I tried IT out (pun intended) but didn't get into it very much. Just wasn't my cup.

If you like Peep Show and That Mitchell and Webb Look, maybe check out The Smoking Room which aired a few years ago on BBC3. The main character is played by Robert Webb.

Not a TV show but here's a hilarious British comedy movie that I've always liked:

    Magicians (2007)

The Thick Of It. Is absolutely fantastic. It spawned the movie In The Loop.

Also the new BBC Three show; Mongrels. Is well worth checking out.
