    'Eclipse' makes $30 million in 3 hours


    Not only did "Eclipse" have the largest domestic release ever when it opened in 4,408 theaters on June 30, but it's also banked more than $30 million at the box office between midnight and 3 a.m. alone. (Oh and by the way, if this movie somehow hasn't made it to a theater near you, 29 additional theaters will play the movie come Friday, according to EW.)
    This makes "Eclipse" the new midnight opening record holder, knocking the film's predecessor, "New Moon," out of the top spot. The second installment in the series earned $26.3 million at midnight showings when it opened in November, 2009.


    As Gossip Cop points out, "New Moon" went on to earn $72.7 million on its opening day, so we can only guess what the first day totals for "Eclipse" are going to look like.


    Twihards, be honest - are some of you seeing this movie two or three times on the first day?

    not surprised at all the last one new moon finished it off just right with intrigue making you hunger for more so I am sure that people have been dying for this installment

    I agree. I do get sick of seeing all the advertisments every from TV, magazines, and online but you know as a marketer mind point. These marketers are brilliant and do a great job.

    Twilight is hitting the point where it's starting to lose interrest, and it's only the really hardcore fans that will continue watching.

    Sure the first ones were pretty decent, and new moon was alright aswell, but now we're milking the cashcow too much, and I give twilight a year's lifespand tops.

    Come back in a year and laugh at me. :P

    First one part was quite good, but now it becomes soap opera, imho. And I suprised that it earned so much in this short period. :)
