Default HELP! Best way to organize movies?

Okay, I am in need of serious help. Over the past few years I've acquired quite the collection of movies and I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to organize (I am never satisfied!) Now I have movies in so many folders and in so many formats that I want to have a program where I could fill in the name and details of each file and have them all organize in a folder.

Then the next step would be to catalog the movies, but this step has already been addressed in a previous thread.

I am just wondering if there are any programs out there that would make the process of renaming and editing the details of the movie FILE easier than just manually editing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, in-case it matters, I'm currently running Windows 7 so some programs may or may not work for me; but I am going to test any suggestion.

I've never tried anything like that before. It does sound like a good idea. Are you looking for something like this File Organizer at Download.com? Or maybe this program for MP3's. And I found this one for free. In any case, check out Download.com and search for the term file organizer.

You can trust what you download from them; it's owned by CNet.

    Hope this helps.

I tried all three. The one for MP3 and images did not do anything for me. The File Organizer was an interesting find. It seems like it catalogs the movies so I'll be useful when I want to share movies with friends I can just give them a list of the movies I have and let them figure it out themselves . Anyways, I will continue looking as well. Hopefully there's something out there.

What you want is XBMC with the Mediastream skin by Razorfish.

[Look] A good looking program for your movies and music !

Edit: Uncertain if it's compatible with W7.

Okay, so I'm a computer programmer at heart. If I can break down a problem into smaller and smaller steps, I can usually find a solution.

What exactly do you want to do? Find one file that's a good example of your conundrum. What do you need to change about that file? Where does it now need to go? What information do you want to get / create? How will this better organize your files?

Awesome. Okay I basically want to organize the file name of all my movies and I want to fill in the details (title, year, quality, etc.) I can set my own form of organization by renaming the file name and manually typing in what I want, but I was hoping for an easier way to do that. For instance, I'll have a group of foreign movies which I want a [Korean] prefix. I don't want to have to rename all the files individually to have it organize so how do I set a group of files to do so? Think of iTunes when organizing music, you can select a group of songs and assign them the same Album and it'll update each song.

So in the end, all my files can be formatted as: [language] year - Title - Quality/sub.ext this is so when I copy these movies to another external, I know what I'm moving.

    I hope that's clear.

I'm currently downloading this file, but it's getting late so I'll have to get back to you on whether it's what I'm looking for or not. Thanks!

[Edit] just tried out XBMC, it's a very nice prog, but no option to edit the file name of the movies. So if the movies are named incorrectly there's be no way of finding the right one.

Okay. What you want is a program that will do a batch rename. Basically, you select a bunch of files and say, i want such-and-such to change in the name. There are a number of free programs on download for doing this. I also spotted Batch File Rename 1.23 (Very High Editors' rating) and Flash Renamer (High Editor and User ratings).

Batch File Rename is *coughs* $29.95 and Flash Renamer is *coughs* $19.95
