    Default Stargate Universe let down....

I as a fan of stargate am astonished how much they have deviated and ruined a formula that was working very very well.

If i wanted to watch bsg what would i do? suprise suprise i would watch bsg.

Seriously why would you make an obvious rip off slap the stargate name in front of it and hope your fans would just shift over.

I cannot believe sga got canned for this.

First time i have been bored during anything branded with stargate.

    Very very very annoyed. Discuss....

    call it stargate voyager

also killing lou phillips in the pilot was as disappointing as killing robert patrick in the sga pilot. a well known action star would become the series very well.

I thought the first episode was disappointing as well, I wish they would of told us the story behind the destiny ship. Hopefully the Stargate Atlantis movie called Stargate Extinction coming out later this year won't be such a let down as SGU.

At least the caprica pilot had the making of the orginal cylons. Iunno for some reason seeing that just sent shivvers.

    =D

Universe added nothing. Even the glimpses of sg1 were poor.

I am also a long-time Stargate fan, and was a little disappointed by the pilot episode. Especially Richard Dean Anderson whose acting looked like he had been forced to appear in that episode. Secondly there were several pretty long 'emotional' scenes that were totally unnecessary....

But the second episode was somewhat better, less shaky camera, less and shorter emotional scenes and a little bit of action, so I've still got hope they'll get better.

I really liked SGU. I think it's a good thing that they're moving towards a different style for the Stargate series. There have been, what, 15 odd seasons worth of the old style of Stargate. It was getting tired and dull. The same crap was happening every episode, nothing was interesting and fresh, just the same old boring stories and enemies.

With SGU they can finally push Stargate into new and exciting directions because of the new premise and new style. It was amazing that within the first episode there was actually sex. Have you EVER seen that in any Stargate material before? No. It's a crude example but it just goes to show that they can now start creating new and interesting material.

Personally I think that if they kept the style the same as it's always been they would find it very difficult to come up with anything interesting and then everyone would be complaining about how crap and stale the show is.

Its only been three episodes but things are looking promising. I have enjoyed it so far. As long as they strike the right balance of the tried and true trip through the gate a week and the new dark/gritty/bsg aspect it should be a nice refreshing change.

As to the the 'call it stargate voyager' comment from rHA2Or8z. The guys around the office are calling it 'Battlegate Voyager'. Battlestar Galactica for the gritty/dark, Stargate SG1 for the gate trip a week, and Voyager for the lost in space on a ship so far from home.

I think its going to be a good series.

What I do want to know is how they will handle the main enemy for the series. I haven't really grasped the speed at which the ship is moving and how that compares to the size of the space controlled by past enemies. How long would the ship take to travel from one side to the other of Goa'uld, Wraith or Aurai territory. Would be we talking years? Or is it more along the lines of a couple of months, so lets just outrun them?

Just discussed it with the guys here at work. (Can you tell I work in IT :)) . And they reminded me of details I'd forgotten. They're traveling using a technology that is slower then hyperspace, as in the ship was launched before it was invented. So yeah, I guess they would be in a main enemies territory for years at a time, considering the travel time using hyperspace in SG1 and Atlantis.

imo the last episode was even worse than the pilot.
they created problems out of nowhere and lots of arguing for no reason.
and the supernatural trip the one soldier had ... c'mon.

that aside it had 'low budget' printed all over it. like the first sg1 episodes when every planet was looking like some forest area in canada (what it actually was)
