Ernst Lubitsch, Charlie Chaplin and Rene Clair are the other directors I love.

It's hard to chose a few. Peter Jackson (LOTR), Hayao Miyazaki(Princess Mononoke, Howl's moving castle), David Cronenberg (A History of Violence, the Fly), Stanley Kubrick(Clockwork Orange).

I would agree with Terry Gilliam but mainly for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, anyone who can make a movie based on Hunter S. Thompson's book and almost surpass the original gets my vote.
