    Does anyone know if i was to burn an MKV file using nero would it be playable in most dvd players or do i have to convert the file myself before burning?

    it doesn't matter what the original ISO/MKV format is, nero will always burn the same image if the data is the same, however for most dvd players to play disks you need to force the booktype of the disk to DVD (rather than DVDR) and I don't think nero is capable of doing this, try imgburn, you can easily set the booktype to dvd using that.

    u will have to convert to avi first.

    use VirtualDubMod... (not regular virtualdub)

    sorry I got confused with MDF What I said about the booktype is still true, but as mentioned above you'll need to convert it first, although personally I think converting it from MKV to AVI to VOB is too much hastle, and also there a good chance you'll lose some quality from all that reencoding along the way. Have you got nero vision with the nero bundle? Apparently that handles MKV files just fine, however you may need to change the extension to .MP4 for nero to pick it up.

    Personally i'd get nero vision to save to an iso file rather than a disk, and then force the booktype to dvd using imgburn when burning it, but it depends on how compatible your dvd player is with dvd-/+r medium. (every dvd player i've had + the xbox 360 won't touch disks with a dvd r booktype)
