Default HDD vs DVD vs Bluray

    hi,

I tend to store almost everything i need and do not need , i hate my self deleting a thing , my biggest problem is that i am afraid of losing data HDD failure or DVD disk corruption , i never tried storing on Bluray but i am thinking about it

My question is that if i want to store something for a 10 years do i use HDD or DVD or Bluray media
From my experience 90 GB got corrupt on HDD , many CDs (old times) went absolute , i used few DVDs for short time (was terrible with small files (programs and pdfs) )

    Thanks

I can relate, in the past year i'v gone trough 3 2tB external harddrives already which sucks most of them were full, and then they just decided to stop working for me. For the past few years i'v been burning all my files to dvd and have them nicely organised and numbered (i even have everything organised in wordpad and what cd number it's recorded on, if i want to rewatch a movie i simply do a quick search on the wordpad ducument so that i can locate the movie nice and quickly without having to read trough a few hundred dvd's)

(This is the best way that works for me, whenever a dvd becomes in a rough condition i just redownload everything that was on there and then reburn it)

Blu-ray all the way m8, stored on my NAS about 80 Terabyte my suggestion if i may scan your harddisk twice a year for bad sectors and or other disk errors there are
so many hdd tools (freeware) that can do the job for you and be on time replacing them, and buy HDD with the lowest rpm that will lost longer then those with a
higher rpm and make sure if in case the HDD is properly cooled.
    Suggestion HDD
Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARX, 2TB
Western Digital Caviar Green WD30EZRX, 3TB
    Samsung EcoGreen F4EG HD204UI, 2TB

    good luck m8

I understood that SSD is extremely fast but its the first time i know that its safe for the data and yeah i googled it and it appears true , but considering that i will not pack 10 TB on SSD unless i am a millionaire i will get one for my ebooks and work files (valuable to me things) , thank you for the valuable information

I agree with LovelyMan, if you want an absolute source for storage.. Right now the SSDs are very expensive, but there are no moving mechanical parts that will mess up like in HDDs. A cheaper method though would be the Blu-ray option. I got a Blu-ray burner on a site for around $100. The discs have also gotten a lot cheaper. Just make sure you don't scratch them!

I wouldn't suggest anything memorex, they may be cheap, but they absolutely suck in the long run.
