According to the co-founder of the popular music website Last.fm (owned by CBS) Richard Jones, Apple has “fucked over” the service with “its new 30 per cent subscription tax.“ Many have voiced against Apple’s policy which since the iTunes store launched has charged developers 30 per cent of the retail price, without, however, offering support for in-app subscriptions. In a recent statement Steve Jobs made public the new pretension of the monopolizing giant which looks to get a 30 per cent share from the fee third parties obtain when new customers are acquired through an iApp.
“The former CTO of the music website made the point in an IRC chat session“,The Register reports, adding:
“Other music services are considering their options after the introduction of the subscription requirement, which explicitly covers movies and music, in addition to newspaper and magazine subscriptions.”
But let’s face it – who’s really surprised with Apple’s move since the company’s ways have never been very orthodox and it’s part why Apple enjoys its dominance on the market.
