Default 'Android passes iPhone in the US'

Looks like Android is finally making some serious moves into the smartphone territory!! I've been hearing for a while that they would eventually surpass iPhone, but wow...

"61.5 million people in the US owned smartphones during the three months ending in November 2010, up 10 percent from the preceding three-month period. For the first time, more Americans are using phones running Google's Android operating system than Apple's iPhone, but RIM's BlackBerry is still in first place, according to comScore. RIM fell from 37.6 percent to 33.5 percent market share of smartphones, Google captured second place among smartphone platforms by moving from 19.6 percent to 26.0 percent of US smartphone subscribers, and Apple slipped to third despite its growth from 24.2 percent to 25.0 percent of the market. Microsoft, in fourth place, fell into single digits from 10.8 percent to 9.0 percent while Palm was still last and further slipped from 4.6 percent to 3.9 percent."

iPhone OS is worse and always will be. Love android OS and congratulate Google with that win. I bet it will overtake RIM soon.

You have to remember the fact that iPhone is currently only available on AT&T. I have a feeling that once the iPhone comes out for Verizon its numbers will shoot up past Android once again.

You also have to take in consideration that android got phones in all price markets, while iPhone just got it in two, expenive and even more expensive! nah, kidding :)

I certainly hope this trend continues, the amount of restriction Apple place on IPhone is way too many. It is user friendly but aren't exactly good if you want to do things outside what Apple wants you to do. (I am not talking about illegal stuff here, Apple doesn't allow IPhone 3GS to multitask even though that function is possible on jailbroken phone)

EXACTLY!!!! :D It really says a lot about iPhone users that they are willing to accept the bare minimum that Apple offers them. I'd MUCH rather a device that I had complete control over (i.e. Android) than one that was riddled with restrictions (i.e. iPhone).

I am on Verizon and even tho they just got the iPhone I wouldn't trade my HTC Incredible for it if it was given to me as a free upgrade. Android > iOS.
