Default HTC Desire VS Nexus One

Currently considering buying HTC Desire which is supposedly an upgraded version of Nexus One.
I would like opinions from people who've possibly used both.

I dont think upgrade is the correct word here, the two phones are almost identical, same snapdragon 1GHz processor, same OS with minor differences which I have highlighted for you below. It is like the same phone but branded differently.
Yes, I have used both of them, personally, I prefer N1 which is what I am using at the moment. You can't really tell the difference while using it, they run apps at the same speed, and loading web pages are the same, if you like Sense UI, you can always flash the Desire rom on N1. Desire does have 64MB extra RAM, which allow you to run more apps at background.
I like a phone with both Google and HTC logos, so, N1 for me and my gf keeps the Desire

    N1:
    512MB RAM, 512MB ROM
5 MP, 2560х1920 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
    Video: D1 (720x480 pixels)@min. 20fps
    No radio
Active noise cancellation with dedicated microphone
    No Sense UI

    Desire:
576 MB RAM; 512 MB ROM
    5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
    WVGA (800x480 pixels) @ 15fps
    radio
    No noise cancellation
    HTC Sense UI

All the reviews I've read are saying Desire > N1. Guess they think newer means better.
And they always stress Sense UI which I don't get. Have tried Sense UI on an HTC and wasn't impressed or disappointed. Anyway thanks for the good input.

there is something that I forgot to mention in the first post, that is:
If you want to root your phone, go with N1, google internationally left the bootloader to be rooted, however, HTC desire cannot be rooted at this stage and rooting a snapdragon based device is hard afaik. Hopefully desire will get rooted soon.

I wasn't aware of the rooting issue :/

To be fair I'm not sure I need it at this point, there's such a plethora of free apps it's simply incredible.

I have the HTC Desire and am enjoying the living hell out of it, however I haven't tried the N1 so I'm unable to compare the two.

Either's probably a good choice. The next better one would probably be the HTC Evo but that's still got a few months until release.

Desire will soon be rooted, MoDaCo has done it i believe.
The desire IS the better device.
Almost everything is better + you have the option of Sense UI without rooting.
The only drawback is the noise cancellation is gone which cmon people, were you really complaining before the N1 about a phone not having it?

Xader pretty much said everything for me, but there are some small things.
Desire is tweaked for better battery life.
It has more customization options when stock.
Hardware keys (not qwerty) which aren't hard to press like the touchkeys on N1.

TBH though, i'll probably get the N1.
Desire's not available in US 3G bands yet anyway.

the kon is right, the hard android-standard keys (home, search, back and menu) are much easier to click compare with the soft keys on N1.
and yes, desire will be rooted, soon or later.
